Classic insurance?

What Broker/Insurer are people using, and have you renewed your cover in the last few months? Seems rates have risen sharply this year.

Hi Paul

I'm with Lockton's Performance under the PCGB scheme, IIRC renewal was May or June? Price was slightly up as per usual to last years of around £400. This includes breakdown/recovery, mods and an agreed value of £25k which is what PCGB valued the car at. Interestingly Lockton's told me that as of this year all policies include an agreed value, I wonder if this might be a move to protect themselves from the large increase in recent years of values in classic cars in their core business of Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin marques. Just a theory...🙂

Pete

Renewed with Heritage last September, limited mileage premium £425 inc. legal & recovery, and agreed value £15k. My first 944 in 2006 was written off (rear ended) within a month...they paid up promptly and then got stuck in to the culprit, so I've stuck with them ever since!

Thanks for the replies. I was with Lancaster last year Pete, they were under £200, and that included some mods I was thinking about adding, but never got around to doing. This year they want over £400 without those potential modifications. I think Lancaster are linked with Adrian Flux, and they seem to have history for quoting low in the first year or 2, and then ramping up their prices.

I've used ClassicLine for years. £321 this year including European breakdown cover, mods, 5k miles, guaranteed value etc. The premium was actually £288 based on £20k value but when I got that increased (quite a bit!) this year the premium rose to £321 which is fair enough. Valuations with them are good for 24 months and their in house team are good to deal with. Never had a claim so no idea how they are with them........

I've found with valuations that evidence of very recent work, works in your favour (last 2 years generally). Given that I've had a recent engine build, new to me mint gearbox, full brake overhaul, suspension refresh, paint and other bits and pieces, and armed with the fact that the fire damaged turbo I got my box from had a £25k payout this year, they didn't even argue with the figure I suggested.

My last 3 years have been £222, £252 and £288. So they seem to play fair. Obviously my £288 moved to £321 for reasons explained.

Also with Locktons through the PCGB scheme, I'm paying around £650 (altogether) for both the 996 and the 944 Turbo on limited mileage (3k miles per car), with agreed value at £20k for the 944 Turbo (need to get a new valuation when re-assembled).

I've been with Grove & Dean brokers on my S2 Coupe - car value £14k UK breakdown. I think it was £120 all in for a 3000 mile policy. Still freaks me out how cheap it is!

S2 Cab renewed with Classicline in July - £210 with £12k asssured value and 5k miles. That was up by just £20 from last year's.

We are with Footman James after switching from Lockton (PCGB scheme) last year because they had become so expensive. We have just had the renewal notice and the price has doubled! I will have to spend some time getting quotes again to see if we can get the price down through switching.
