Cayman Register Secretary

Hi all.

As a Cayman registered owner I have never received any notifications or Mailchimps let alone any RS position that is obviously up for grabs.

Lack of communication one thinks.

Cliff, from my communications with Kevan I get the impression that any MailChimp emails he wants to send have to be sent by the club office. If that is the case then it may be worth you contacting the office to ask them to investigate why you’re not receicing Cayman Register emails (which are a rare occurrence anyway).

MailChimp emails are drafted by the RS and sent to the Club who release them to the mailing list. I know this through mailings I have done for the Modified Register.

I don’t think I have ever received a Cayman register MailChimp email and I am not sure any have been sent, so the issue may not be with mailing lists.

The only way to test this is for Kevan to send one out and announce the mailing on this forum so we can see who out our small sample receives it.

Kevan will be sending a MailChimp for me this week, relating to my planned register meeting in January at Kimbridge Barn as per my thread elsewhere on this forum - all Cayman register members should receive it.

Thanks Andrew, all my Cayman registered details are correct as are my contact details.

I do receive contact from my Region and obviously Boxster.

I await to see if MailChimp or Emails arrive next time fingers crossed.[:D]

Unfortunately my Cayman won't be in action as on sorn for circa 3 months.

A CR event when weather's better in the South East would be awsome. [;)]

If I understand Maurice’s point, the MailChimp database is only for Regions and therefore one might deduce that Register mailing lists are somehow created from other data such as whether members have entered in their profile a car model or have subscribed for a particular register.

As I don’t share my car Vin or reg# with the Club, I’ll be interested to see if I get Kevan’s mailing.

There is a considerable problem with MailChimp in that to have more than the Regions on it would cost a significant amount in licencing. Currently all MailChimps are subject to approval by an RO & former Board member, and are edited and sent (or not) on their whim.

Not tenable, IMHO ! With > 20,000 members, if we need a tool, we should either pay as appropriate or desist from its use.

As for this call for action from Motorhead

>> I think it's time to for me to ask the RD directly what's happening, and maybe others on here feel the same. Dave Carnaffin can be contacted on register@porscheclubgb.com

If we don't act on this sort of issue, we deserve what we get ! I think my original suggestion is the only way forward ..

cheers, Maurice

Thread hijack Maurice ?

Perhaps if you had attempted to send out a 993 mailchimp since August then you would know that is is George, Richard Rees and Paul Grainger that administer the mailchimp system. The only time that a volunteer gets involved is out of hours and when the team are working National events. If you think there should be a paid full time resource to cover out of hours on the off chance that there may just be some communication from your good self then knock yourself out. But, by using a volunteer for out of hours support allows your Club to spend it's funds on discretionary events, such as the 987 and 993 technical seminars.

On your allegation that mailchimp is costing a a significant amount on licensing is false. With the exception of Tracy's Boxster account which has over 2000 subscribers (so you have to pay) the others are free accounts.

On getting hold of your Register Director, you could always try the old fashioned direct approach and call him.

btw Maurice didn't know you own a Cayman.

Nick

Chaps,

Can we please get back to and stay on the subject of this thread, namely the appointment of a Cayman Register Secretary.

I am sure in the background the Club Chair is working to bring clarity to progress on the appointment process.

Just to let everyone know that I've received an email message from the Register Director, Dave Carnaffin, in which he apologises for the delay, part of which is that he’s been on holiday and is working remotely at the moment and doesn’t have access to the list of people who’ve expressed an interest in the vacant position.

He also says that he’s been following the forum posts and that he’s determined to get the best person for the position. Apparently the Club has been reviewing the criteria for appointing the RS (and RO positions), in his words to make sure we try to give each and every member someone that is a suitable representative for the club and will be able to be seen as an active addition to the register”.

He’s aiming to meet with Steve Gillings before Christmas with a view to getting all the vacant registers filled within the next month or so. I spoke on Wednesday evening with Steve at a Region 24 meeting and he confirms that he has a meeting scheduled for next week with Dave to review the applicants.

I should add that I did suggest to Dave that he might want to update Register members via Mailchimp or perhaps use this forum post.

That’s it for now. I guess that we’ll just have to be patient and await developments.

Jeff

Thanks for the update Jeff.

Although the MailChimp issue was slightly off topic can I just end by saying that today a MailChimp email relating to my meeting at Kimbridge Barn has been sent to all Cayman Register members - if you have not received that email but believe that you should have I suggest that you inform the club office so that they can investigate.

Has there been an open request for applications? I never saw one.

I did get the MailChimp, thanks for that.

Not good if the process fails at the first hurdle, I'd welcome a month's delay to get an open transparent applications process followed by qualification/vetting before Register members get a say.

From this small sample, including myself, it seems that there hasn't been an open request for RS applications, and I have to agree with Ralph's sentiments. If Dave Carnaffin is reading this post, let's hope that he takes such comments on board.

Incidentally, I've just received a Cayman Register notification about Caymans and Coffee at Kimbridge Barn which I assume has been sent via Mailchimp?

Jeff

Yes the Caymans and Coffee email was sent by the office using MailChimp, I asked Kevan to send it and Kevan forwarded to the office for sending. The office kindly ‘added value’ by adding some hot-links which weren’t in my original.

Please don’t be too hard on the awfully nice Mr Carnaffan or he might take his bat home and that would be a terrible shame!

By the way, can someone tell me where the MailChimp name came from? It seems to have caused lots of people some confusion.
