Cayman Register Members on this Forum?

Hi all

I have started a separate thread just for name, model and general location, a look up table. It still leaves this thread for member / membership discussion.
John,

Unless I’m mistaken I only see your new thread when I’m logged in, which is good considering the content of the thread. I know that some forums are private to logged in members only but I didn’t know it was possible to create a members only thread in a public forum - do you have some special forum privilege to allow that? Maybe it’s only me who sees that effect and it’s due to something in my browser/settings (iPad Mini/Firefox)?

It’s the same for me Andrew. I’m on an iPad/Google.

Thanks Jeff, I’m glad it’s not just me. It would be interesting to know whether it’s “working as designed” or an “undocumented feature”.

I guess that only John can answer the question for us Andrew. It is odd though; like you I’ve not seen it before.

Jeff

I guess it is good to have it as a members only thread, but how it got that status is beyond me. I will try and find out though.

I wonder if it is anything to do with the revisions to forum rules. Did others have to accept new T’s & C’s when you next logged on?

Yes John, the new T’s & C’s come up. I’ve always had to sign in to access the ‘top section’ of the Cayman forum - FAQ’s, Technical etc. I assumed that was “normal”.

John, I think that I know the answer!

The thread itself is NOT private. The sub-forum called "Cayman New Members welcome and photos" is a PCGB Member Only forum whereas the main "Cayman" forum, "Cayman Faqs" and "Cayman Technical Articles" sub-forums are all open to non-members. I think it would be helpful if all PCGB Member Only forums could have their titles appended with "PCGB Members Only" as is the case with some other forums.

Like many members I always access the forums using a url like this [link=https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/recentposts]https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/recentposts[/link] which conveniently opens a view showing the latest posts on all forums (or the ones I subscribe to). If I’m logged-in that view will include private forums, if I’m not logged-in it shows only public forums which is what must have happened in this case and that is why it was excluding your "What's yours?" thread which was created in the "Cayman New Members welcome and photos" PCGB Members Only sub-forum.

I wonder if this is vaguely associated with why some people say they're logged-out frequently/always and others like me appear to be logged-out only infrequently e.g. Someone who was viewing a public forum when they were automatically logged out may be able to return to their browsing window and still be able to read the forum without having to log-in (unless they try to post something) whereas someone who was reading a members only forum when they were automatically logged-out might always be prompted to log-in on returning to their browsing window? Anyway, I’m happy that I now understand why I thought (incorrectly it turns out) that just one thread was private.

Thank you Andrew. I will check with the Oracle at the Clubhouse and confirm this, but it seems entirely logical and, if so, is worth communicating more widely.

New Owner

Hi everyone

I have just become the proud owner of a Cayman 2.7 - 64 reg with just 10k on the clock, and my husband has signed up for joint membership so we can make the most of her. Have to say I have never loved a car so much although the male envy at work is rife at the moment.

Unfortunately the handbook was not in the car, the dealer has posted it to me but that was a week ago and it’s still not arrived. The car amongst many other extras has the upgraded sound package but no idea what that means or how it works. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi Caroline, and welcome to Cayman ownership, the Club and to this part of the forum.

Good to hear that you’re enjoying the car even in these restrictive times and hopefully you’ll enjoy the benefits of the Club both locally and nationally when finally we’re able to get out and about more.

Regarding the upgraded sound package it’s probable that you have either the Sound Package Plus option or the even more expensive Bose or Burmeister systems. I think SSP just includes some extra speakers whereas the other options include additional hi-fi components: amplifiers and a subwoofer most likely. I have to say that the most expensive options could be a waste of time in a sports car like the Cayman because of the high levels of road-induced noise in the cabin even at relatively low speeds. Just enjoy the mechanical sounds generated by that flat-6 engine when you spin it up to higher revs! [;)]

Edit: You may be able to find something useful in this link. Just select Boxster/Cayman (2012-2016):

Hi Jef

We are indeed looking forwards to be getting out and having some fun, the furthest we have been so far was the click and collect from the dealer we purchased it from. Hopefully not too long to wait now.

Thank you for the update re the SSP which is what was on the extras list on the invoice.

Hi Jeff,

I used to attend R9 as a guest but when I joined PCGB they allocated me to R10, the first R10 meeting I attended was just before the first lockdown so I haven't been since.

I regularly go onto the forum and have posted a couple of times, located in Northamptonshire.

Tim

Hi Tim,

I‘m sure that we’re all looking forward to getting back to some form of normality later this year. Hope to catch-up with you and other regular members at an R10 meeting in the not too distant future.

Jeff

New PCGB member and first time Porsche owner, 10 months in and loving it!! Although COVID reduced the road hours somewhat :(

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the Club, and good to hear that you’re enjoying Cayman ownership in spite of the current restrictions. I presume that you’ve been put in R10 and hope to catch-up with you at one of our monthly Saturday meetings when we’re back to some sort of normality.

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I am indeed allocated to R10 and certainly look forward to attending one (or all) of the Saturday meetings.

Ian

Hi all, I'm another new PCGB member and first time Porsche owner. I picked up my 987.2 from a private seller almost a month ago - the car has just passed 75,000 miles and includes some great mods that the previous owner had carried out throughout his ownership.

I'm also in the R10 region and hope to get out to meet people next month.

Cheers,

Jack
