One reason why parts for classics are so high, is the fact most of them run out of stock. Porsche made re-runs and produced more. When they produce more parts for older models, it usually means quite small number of pieces. That means higher prices. For example 968 M030 stabilizer bars run out of stock about six years ago. Porsche made more and new ones cost about 25% more.
I have started to collect parts for my own needs. I know some parts will be NLA quite soon. Also aftermarket companies has stopped produce some service parts. For example Mahle & Mann does not make 951 air filter any longer. Knecht brand is available for some time. I just ordered few Knechts to my warehouse.

Make one - doesnt necessarily have to be S/S if its a Sunday car and not out in all weathers
You could make one yourself out of S/S, it's not a difficult material to work with although a little tougher to cut but nothing to difficult.

Mahle & Knecht are the same company
I am aware of that. Same company make also products under Purolator, Tecalemit, Fram & Bosch etc. brands.
