Caliper Spring Plate Cost

How on earth can a cheap stainless stamping cost as much to buy as a 968 cam chain, for crying out loud? I think that £20 is bloody good for a cam chain, but £20 per plate, and you need two per caliper, is an absolute piss take!

Can't disagree with you there. That part will cost less than 50p to make.
I've seen OEM sell parts for a x10 markup before, but x40 is getting silly.

You did.

Being stainless can they really be in such a state they need changing, when I had my brakes refurbed I just cleaned them up and re used them.

Turbo charger sealing O ring, £5.09 plus VAT
Turbo to manifold sealing ring £19.08 plus VAT
Prices are getting even more stupid than before.
I am going to start to source all the parts myself as it is now well beyond a joke for many easy to find parts.

Parts for classic models are getting more & more expensive. Porsche has risen 944 parts prices quite a lot during past few years. Similar parts for 995,997, Boxster etc. are cheaper.
One reason why parts for classics are so high, is the fact most of them run out of stock. Porsche made re-runs and produced more. When they produce more parts for older models, it usually means quite small number of pieces. That means higher prices. For example 968 M030 stabilizer bars run out of stock about six years ago. Porsche made more and new ones cost about 25% more.
I have started to collect parts for my own needs. I know some parts will be NLA quite soon. Also aftermarket companies has stopped produce some service parts. For example Mahle & Mann does not make 951 air filter any longer. Knecht brand is available for some time. I just ordered few Knechts to my warehouse.

Make one - doesnt necessarily have to be S/S if its a Sunday car and not out in all weathers

You could make one yourself out of S/S, it's not a difficult material to work with although a little tougher to cut but nothing to difficult.
