Bonnet Release

Bonnet. Boot releases fine every time with the drivers side button. The bonnet did too, from the passenger side catch, until I broke it!
 
Broke my first thing on the car!

Yesterday, showing the beast to a friend, the boot catch was a bit tough but soon opened. The catch travelled further than it should have though once released. Today I go to have a look at it, the catch is moving freely, but sadly the bonnet it not opening. With no Haynes book to check, you are my first port of call!

The cable appears to be attached to the catch, so is it likely that the cable has snapped, or come detached from the bonnet release? Can I release the bonnet any other way to check the cable? Any other advice?
 
They often break the top mount or the outer cable locating lug. You can often pull the cable directly to release it.
 
I'll try in the morning. I wondered if the cable mount in the footwell was broken. Looks like the fuel pump is bumped down 1 in my list of jobs

I had this fail a few months back, you need a new plastic moulding which I got off e-bay, (ask on here perhaps) its about a tenner, not much more new I think. While you are working with the broken lever assembly, you need to hold the cable outer, dont just pull the handle which is still attached or you will damage the cable where it passes into the bulkhead behind the dash. good luck George 944t
 
I think you're right George. I had a look this morning after driving it in to work. The cable should be held in place, but that part of the plastic release is broken. I suspect the reason it broke is, even when holding the cable housing firmly and pulling the handle, the cable was too stiff to move. So, the handle may only be a symptom. A bit after the event, but I managed to 'patch up' the release with a bit of metal strapping, so it works for now. I'll look for a replacement!
