Body coloured Batwing and Side Mouldings

Hi guys,

Im sure you have all seen the below poster. What had not registered in my mind previously was that the plastic mouldings and bat wing are all painted!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads2/944turbo1078216924.jpg

Searched high and low but cant find any pictures of cars with the standard side plastic lower mouldings and bat wing in body colour. Was this an option from the factory? Or just done to highlight the extra parts on the newly released turbo in that poster?

Has any body actually done this or got pictures of one with it done. My initial thoughts are positive as it would match the lower rear spolier - but where do you stop? The upper spoiler and rear window surround? Door handles etc etc. I would look at using the same stone resistant finish along the sills to tie it in better.

At the moment its still totally standard. suppose it wouldnt be hard to do and change back if it looked nasty.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Charlie

I have a colour coded front splitter but its not the original batwing. I've never seen anything other than black.
Same for the side skirts but I've taken those off too.

Your car being a '91 I assume it is a bridge spoiler model, like mine, I have seen quite a few pics of cars with body coloured bridge spoilers, and I considered doing that with mine when it had its recent body restoration and respray, but in the end I decided it looked better in satin black. (The car is white.)

I think the big rubber spoiler on earlier cars would look very odd in anything other than black.

The under-body side strakes I think are best left in their natural colour. They are *always* dirty and very prone to nicks and chips down there. If you had a show car that was mostly trailered around they might look great in body colour, but for anything that is actual practical transport I think the self-coloured look is best, so even wen they do get chipped and scraped it doesn;t stand out.

Indeed - totally standard bridge spoiler late '91 SE. All trim/spoiler still standard black finish. In fact the window surround could do with a refresh at some stage - as intimated before I prefer these areas kept standard - otherwise you will wind up in a battle to do all the satin black trim in body colour.

You are probably right - would last about five minutes with it nice and shiny before ending up looking a total mess. [:D]

Still as you say - I would be curious to see if anyone with a show pony has done it. Just thought it would give the car a touch more depth and wandered if any ever left the factory like it - alas it appears not.

Guess I will just have to buy a black one so they already match [;)]
