If I was Porsche I'd say, think of a race car. A good chassis will cost you £x and an engine will cost you £y. Porsche make brilliantly capable chassis and if you could buy the 987 Spyder without an engine they'd still want as much as the AMG 45 costs for the full car. Porsche does make more powerful engines but add one to the chassis would take the Spyder beyond the price point it was aimed at. To justify their claim Porsche would say consider the 424bhp £100K Audi R8 V8 Spyder. The 987 Spyder beats it in chassis capability, carrying more speed through bends etc. That is without one of their more potent engines dropped in the Spyder. We'd like to see an A45 AMG go around a track with a Spyder and see which one takes you faster then[
