I was fitting a 20vT(longitudinal AEB engine, which as the best cylinder head) into my 924S, or rather I was having one fitted. Unfortunately the small VAG specilaist doing the job had a bit of a breakdown.....

I'm glad my summary helped save someone from doing a wasted trip! It was much, much worse in real life compared to the photos.

The poor fellow ended up buying a rusty car from a forum member didnt he; after being assured that it was sound?

Buyer beware I'm afraid. It's certianly not a dog but it is a bit more rotten than I would have liked. The vendor can't be blamed for my lack of thoroughness when inspecting the car. It's a million times better than the car at the top of this thread though so was worth the money I paid for it IMO.

Ben heres one - I've not seen it or know anything about it, just looks vfm!

I'm really after a square dash only. Something changed about the 944 when it went oval dash. I think it went away from the go kart type feel toward a more up market feel.

Does look an aazing find though!

I'm highly dubious of the claimed 75000 miles given the state of that steering wheel...

Its nice of you to say that Simon, but I was under the impression that the car was touted as being in excellent condition in that respect. Thats certainly the impression that I got from the vendors posts.

Advert states:

been Off the road for 3 years, requires drivers sill and welding.

No rust anywhere, all panels are straight.

If there's no rust anywhere, why does it need the sill and welding then? [8|]

I picked up on that contradiction too but I think it would be hard to find one that didn't need the sills doing now. At least its well priced if it is a straight car with sill rot. Could make it solid and get a nice run about for £1500 if you did a bit of the servicing yourself.. But we all know they can be a lot worse than that!

I must have gotten lucky with my 83 944 which rot free sills. Then again I have spent a lot of money trying to get the rest of the car up to scratch to it can enjoy life back on the road.

I have spent considerably more than £1500 so far on it.

how about a late 924s? '88 year was same power as a lux iirc. same weight and interior as the early '44s

I looked but they seem to be 4 times the price now! They've got too rare and I really love the hips, deep wheels of the 944.

I dont love the looks of the 924 in the same way but I do love the way the S drives.

924Ss look pretty rubbish out of the box, but they look fantastic when lowered/levelled and with slightly wider wheels. Look at Steves (CarerraRSRs) 924 Turbo and tell me that it isnt a handsome car.

My golf just drove away with a new owner so I'm looking for a mk 1/2 golf or square dash 944 immediately to replace it.

Yeah, good square dash 944s are hard to find. There's an awful lot of rubbish out there! If I was in your shoes I would hold out for a 944 though. I don't think I'd be happy with a front-driver as my toy.
