992 New Model Ownership Woes

New to 911, wanted one for years, previously 718s (some quality issues - engine mount failures etc).....lover em though!

Finally got a new 911 last month.

First off the car is fabulous, but picked up these threads as it has arrived with a number of quality issues I am trying to get fixed and was interested in other experiences. I think they are mix of issues that maybe systematic with the model (reading the threads) and things the manufacturer/dealer should have caught?

E.g: sunroof not closing; door not shutting properly; sports exhaust not switching on; door casing rattles; drivers seat release pull binding; clips broken on trim; leather seat cushion baggy; etc.

Anyhow, what a car and brand! Quality issues I would not expect from lesser/cheaper brands, but I still love the thing! Appreciate the info on these posts, first one ever for me, but helpful to know what others are experiencing.......

I’ve encountered a few issues with my 2020 MY 992. Faulty passenger seatbelt switch, cracked door handle, buggy PCM, rattles in both doors which became worse after OPC attempted to fix requiring new door cards that were ordered in August, arrived this week and can’t be fitted until January. Faulty seat memory switch and now the rear light bar has developed a fault with a small section not illuminating.

I’ve had the car for 2 years and drive it daily. I appreciate these are just small issues but they have cast a shadow over what was a dream car for me.

Very disappointing given Porsche name and price. I hope your OPC are bending over backwards to ensure that you’re satisfied.

Well, almost a year and a half later....

I've just been sent an email from my local dealer.... "This weeks 'Featured Car'"

My original guards red 992 C2S at the start of this thread is available again (GV19YFY);

https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en_GB/911-Carrera-S-412357

Yours for a bargain £107k (10k miles, 4 owners!).

Best of luck to owner number 5!

I have to say that looks great and it’s making the wait for my new Guards C2S drag even more!

Thank you ;-)

So after 2.5 years and nearly 20k miles another issue has cropped up. On startup I get an ”Airbag system fault” error followed by “ACC not available”. I’m pretty sure I had the same errors when I first bought the car back in 2019, and that took over a week to fix. Anyway, another trip to OPC. Just worried they won’t have any loan cars and will need to keep the car for an extended period.

Sorry to hear of your electrical issues

I have recently had ACC fault pop up from time to time .I’m still not confident of the lithium battery without leaving it on a charger if the car is not used for a week or so.

However it’s the best all round 911 I have owned and probably staying with me for many years albeit with Porsche

warranty

So by way of an update, my issue was caused by a faulty seatbelt stalk on the drivers side. Whilst in the OPC are also replacing the wheel baring cover(s) which is the subject of a recall. Wasn’t expecting that but another day in the loan car (Audi A3 as I went via Porsche Assistance) whist they sort it is better than having to go back again later.

I spotted the drivers door exterior handle had a hairline crack whilst washing the car. On enquiry I understand from the OPC this is a known fault and replacement is a warranty issue.

Battery Issue

Has any on had this? car is 2 yesrs old 11k miles. Battery has gone flat overnight.( We did notice an unusual smell in the cabin since the car has been on site.). Internal battery element failure confirmed.

While waiting for my long awaited TTS, I traded my 997.2 C4 GTS and bought a used one owner 992 C4S in March this year. My insurers insisted on the tracker being activated. Got the car home, parked on the drive and the alarm kept going off and I had about three calls from Vodafone asking if the car had been stolen. The only way I found to stop it was to leave the car unlocked with the doors open (in the garage with another car parked in front of the door); it would not stop even if left unlocked. Porsche assistance attended and could do nothing, so back to the dealer it went the next day. They kept it for most of the week and confirmed they had replaced two tracker sensors so got it back and went for a celebratory pint at a local pub. No sooner had I picked the said pint up, the alarm started and I got a call from Vodafone again! Things seemed to be better if I double locked the car and retracted the mirrors but the problem persisted. Back to the dealer again this time for over two weeks. Apparently they were in discussion with Porsche Germany and must have had some problems by the time it took. Eventually got it back. All seemed well until I parked it in the garage and 5 minutes later the alarm went off again. I locked the car but it was too late to call the dealer. You can imagine I wasn't amused!! However, since then, fingers and much else crossed, it has been as good as gold with no alarm activation and no calls from Vodafone. The dealer tells me they replaced much of the alarm system and some of the tracking system. I hope that helps.

So I'm now into 'month 7' of ownership of the red 992 mentioned at the start of this thread.

Issues:

- Passenger seat 'grab handle' (to allow access to the rear) rattles. Must get that sorted.

- Error twice on display - due to dirt on the windscreen in front of the camera; presume adaptive cruise was disabled.

- Error re: tyre pressure monitoring. Sorted itself after I stopped and restarted.

- In the last few weeks I seem to have the paintwork/lacquer peeling off in 3 areas on the front bumper - one is huge!

Annoyances

- Wired CarPlay. How many times have I left my phone in the car?

- Carpark manoeuvring. Seem to have to come to a complete stop before engaging gears. Lots of revving in neutral by accident!

- Front lip is lower than it looks. Will need replacing soon.

Brilliance

- Speed; 450PS I don't think so.

- Turn-in, poise.

- MPG - up to 37 if you're careful!

- Stereo turns down volume when you're reversing ..

- Headlights (except the part where it flashes people at the sides of the road)

Questions

- Spoiler goes up higher when sunroof open. Why?

Hi,

It‘s an interesting read about your 992 alarm issues as I have a 992 Turbo S with a similar unstable alarm issue. I can never safely walk away after locking the car knowing with any certainty that he alarm won’t go off 30-60 seconds later. It’s been back to my OPC for investigation with no fault found or in fact registered in the diagnostic records. Extremely annoying!

Were you given any specifics about what finally cured the problem? It seems a common problem on the 992 generation with no definitive answer to date.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Chris

My alarm problem was similar: it was never possible to leave the car and trust it would not activate. I think I was so relieved they cured it I didn't think to ask about specifically what they had done, they only told me they had replaced parts of the alarm and tracker systems having consulted Porsche in Germany and I think they had to take time to do it because I was also told initially there was no fault. Whatever they did appears to have fixed it.

I can put you in touch with the dealer that did it if that would help, just send me a PM.

Hi Chris

My 992 Cab did the same. I became very friendly with the Vodafone staff!

My OPC had the same diagnosis; no fault found and nothing in the car log that helped.

Some thoughts bounced between low voltage problems and basic interior alarm. I encouraged the dealer to at least change something!!! so they swapped (or if i was somewhat circumspect about things - disabled!) the interior ultrasonic sensors. ta da. Fixed. Hope it also works for you.

Any alarm/immobiliser issues with your new GTS, Jackdog?

Or have the problems been fixed on the later cars?

I also experienced alarm issues back in 2019 when the car was draining the lithium battery after a few days

The problem never really resolved but

once my insurer deleted the tracker requirement I had no further issues

Frankly the OPC while helpful didn’t

have any ideas because no fault showed up as a check code

No issues with the new GTS. Is all good - touch wood!

That's good to hear. A lot of these problems seem to be Vodafone immobiliser related, so I assume your immobiliser is active and Vodafone has sorted these problems that the earlier cars had.
