992 New Model Ownership Woes

Think the criteria is a bit more 'woolly'. I've got one in my UK based May 2019 992 Carrera S.

It's got the Night View Assist and Adaptive Cruise.... It was diagnosed that one of the reasons I was getting some random errors on startup was because certain devices didn't power up quick enough (part of the update earlier this year), maybe the factory also put that battery in depending on the number of high power demand 'options' in general fitted to the car???

Cheers, I found the XS at Tayna on the web at the cheaper price and am about to attach it to the battery. Have to see if can close the bonnet and lock the car with it charging in the garage and if not will have to leave the bonnet up slightly. Suspect will not be able to close the bonnet fully as the charger lead would be in the way.

Sad not being able to go out for a long blast and was looking forward to a tour down to the Czech Republic but that has now gone off to next year!

Detaching the plastic insulation jacket from the positive crocodile clip often provides sufficient clearance to close the bonnet.

I have been using the CTEK Lithium XS since winter, and now since lock-down. Hardwired the CTEK quick connect plug to battery ( via a 10A fuse just in case very close to battery, negative on the near by chassis stud) ... its a breeze to hook up . The DC cable even passes thru the front trunk lid closed without marking . Its been perfect .

since photo, changed my "spare" oil which I have not had to use to the 0W-40 ESP ( Porsche C40 spec ) one

Good evening all, I hope this finds you well??

I have been messing about with Lithium chargers for a few months now and figured out that on a 992 you can use the 12v socket in the foot well, (instead of wiring one direct to the battery), if you follow this simple process:

Ignition off, charger off.

Connect charger to car and plug into wall.

Turn on the ignition, turn on the power to the charger.

Turn off the ignition, close door and lock car.

That's it, the process alerts the car that there is s charger plugged in and means it won't disconnect the socket after 30 mins.

Hope that helps.

Tom

Good post Tom, that will help a few owners. Mine's tucked up in storage atm using the battery connection but will look at changing to the 12V socket when I finally see the car again, whenever that will be.

Well, finally the time has almost come. Tomorrow morning I'll be collecting my replacement 992 (delayed by 3 months due to current world events).

I've given my 'Friday Girl' her final clean;

One year, 5600 miles (and 10+ return visits to my OPC) later, the dealer applied Gtechniq coating has kept its shine.

I'll give my observations of any MY2020 / 2021 differences I notice for anyone interested.

Having done less than 200 miles, and only 7 trouble free days of my 26 days ownership, my C2S was rejected and returned to the OPC due to a fault causing the battery to rapidly drain. There was no delivery date forecast for the replacement part from Stuttgart and I wasn’t prepared to wait weeks or even months for something that may or may not arrive. If it had have been owned by a finance or lease company then I doubt it would have been as easy to do it this way.

The car was gorgeous and we both loved it in Aventurine Green with Gold wheels and it was so sad to see it go. However the OPC were brilliant and accepted our decision.

The order has been placed for an October build slot so hopefully we will have better luck next time!

Peter, I am totally gutted for you. Glad they took it back so easily.

Here's my replacement;

Major chosen differences being leather seats instead of Sport-Tex, and Front Axel Lift instead of Night View Assist (which although making me feel like an AC130 gunner, would regularly blind with full beam innocent pedestrians walking along the pavement).

The only noticed difference between the May 2019 car and this new May'ish 2020 versions, the newer sports exhaust seems noticeably louder???

Only done 50'ish miles so far, fingers crossed this one will be more reliable.

Sorry to hear Peter,

in the 15 months I have owned the car after the initial problems, the only problems have been with the PCM connect apps Which the software programmers are working on. this is to do with remote trip indication of journeys only working in metric.

i had a test drive in a Taycan the other day, a lovely car but I was glad to return to the 992 for the homeward journey.

Hi All

I took delivery of my new 992 last week and we've had the random "alarm going off" scenario, 4 times, but it seems to have calmed down now. The main issue we have found, which sounds trivial compared to other unfortunate members, is that the wireless Apple Car Play connection randomly stutters when playing music via, say, Spotify. I've reset it up to use the USB cable only and all is good. Anyone else had a similar issue?

Thanks

Hi Lee Delighted to see the new car arrived at last. Really hope no more problems with it. Looks really good in the colour. So far no probs with mine, touch wood other than the recalls for the second redesigned engine mounts and the Bose speaker replacements. Front axle lift very useful as is the 4 wheel steering. Happy motoring, Nick.

Hi 'MC00k911',

I actually had the alarm go off once on my new 992 last Friday evening (six days old) when parking on the driveway after a 90 minute journey where it just clicked on to 200 miles. It has only happened the once and I'm not 100% certain something hadn't moved in the car (my nephew later returned to the car to hunt out his phone from down the side of the passenger seat). I'll keep you posted.

So far, the wireless Apple CarPlay has been faultless and is the best new feature of this car over my last 992 which randomly failed to connect and would require repeated disconnecting/reconnecting of the lightning cable.

Lee.

I wonder how many of these returned/rejected cars go straight back on the 'Porsche Pre-Owned Car Locator' available on the Porsche website. I know mine was listed there on the Monday after the weekend I switched cars. Interestingly, it's no longer there, guess a lucky person may have already brought it.

Thanks Lee - interesting regarding Car Play. Can you tell me what iPhone model you have and the iOS version as I've had problems with both iPhone 10 and 11 with iOS 13.5.

Mark

Lee

Thanks for the info. Have you used Car Play to stream music, from Spotify for example? That's where I get stuttering as the data stream from phone to PCM drops packets (noting that it's not data dropping out from cloud to phone as the signal strength is good and on 4G and I don't get a problem when connected by USB cable).

A different query - do you get traffic sign recognition in the instrument cluster (not PCM display). Driver's Manual says it should be on the 2nd display from left but i've cycled through all the options for that display and it doesn't show. but it does show on PCM nav display so it's definitely working!

Appreciate the feedback

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, I almost always stream either Spotify or Overcast (alternative podcast app) at the same time as running Waze. It really has been rock-solid reliable.

With regards to the Traffic Sign recognition... I believe from asking this same question myself a year or so ago... The recognition within the Instrument cluster is part of an 'Optional Extra' called "Lane Keep Assist incl. Speed limit indicator" (and Traffic sign recognition) @ £749! - I previously had 'Lane Keep Assist' and driving on UK country roads almost constantly triggered what my other half used to call a frog croaking sound because the roads were too narrow.

The speed limit displayed on the PCM is just part of the Sat Nav.

Hope that helps,

Lee.
