991 Gen2 Test

Hi Guys
I recently borrowed a Gen2 991 Carrera S for the day from Porsche Centre Wilmslow and I was really impressed overall, not as throaty as my sports exhaust but still some pleasant sounds. It rained all day so only managed a very wet photo set and a general feel of the new car.
The following week I had the car for an hour in the dry and I loved the handling and it is so willing to deliver the power.
Silverstone on February 3 for a 75 minute Experience to confirm how good it is.
I have posted a gallery of images on the web site (991 register) and submitted an article for Porsche Post.

I agree with Phil, the car is very effective and delivers on many levels. It is much faster to pick up than the current car and is much more composed on the road. It is quieter and the exhaust noise is poor even with sport plus engaged but I suspect I could get used to that [8|]. I am also off to Silverstone but on the 10th so we shall see!!

I've just ordered one!!! 2S Cab in Midnight Blue. Sports Exhaust and RS Spider wheels plus various other bits. Delivery April or May. Does anyone on the forum actually have one yet? Will I be the first??

I had a brief drive in one today. I thought the ride and handling was a step forward over the Gen 1 991 but I was underwhelmed by the engine. Yes, it's faster, but I still prefer the 3.8 naturally aspirated unit.

I think FindTom has one on order, but yours could well be the first to be delivered. Spec sounds rather nice btw.

Change of plan for me..... After a few test drives and some soul searching I decided that the new 991.2 wasn't for me (yet). I managed to find a newly new GTS that worked for me, both drive/performance wise and financially. I'll not sure I could live with the lack of noise from the 991.2, it is a very quiet machine. It is a great thing and an improvement in many areas over the .1 but for me, the GTS is more.........911.

Same for me! I drove the 991.2 C2S quite extensively a couple of weeks ago. I then drove a 1000 mile GTS immediately afterwards. No doubt that the new car is good (at last a multi-function and paddle wheel in one!)...but after my previous 997.2 and 996 the GTS felt 'truer to the history', and altogether much more special. Two dealers with no reason to be anything other than honest felt similarly.

Got the car on Friday and after nearly 150 miles I can honestly say I'm astonished with the completeness of the GTS...even on greasy roads its traction is stunning with a composure and completeness that makes you want to drive just for the hell of it! I realise there's a 'rationalisation bias' in all this, and I'm no road tester, but my advice to anyone with such a choice is to drive the two models before deciding...

Well, had a go in 3 variants at Silverstone today. I have to confess I'm surprised at the earlier comments about the engine. Did you all have ear plugs in? It sounded pretty good to me both on acceleration and the over run with lots of pops and bangs. It certainly sounds a hell of a lot sportier than earlier turbos and not a million miles away from a na engine.
Love the new PCM and steering wheel on the 'S'. And with 4ws on the S as standard the handling seems spot on too.
Drove a manual, which was fun, but the pdk is just so superb now and that would be my first box to tick.

Downside? Information overload on the dash and £106k for the well specced S in the lobby!
Now, how do I get my hands on a gen 2 turbo s.....[]

I think you need to buy a new one as Bob says elsewhere cars are getting very high tech these days so you must not assume !!!
If they can drive themselves I'm sure they will be able to talk to each other ! []
