991 Carrera 2013 5500miles

I have a 991 Carrera 2013 5500 miles Bought from new.

On three occasions get error message PSM deactivated drive carefully + Start stop deactivated. Has anyone experienced this problem. If I turn engine off and leave for few minutes error clears on starting and all OK.

Yes i had this error message on mine a few months ago.
as i was driving along i noticed that the brakes seemed to be sticking on......i pulled over and managed to pull the brake pedal up a bit which seemed to free them so i carried on about 4 miles later i got all of the same warning signs that you mentioned
like you i stopped and after about half an hour when i started off again the issue had cleared?

then when i got home i searched all of the web sites to see if anybody else had had this issue with the brakes sticking on and found out the reason was that as it was a fairly cold day i had put the heater on full blast on my feet, this apparently can cause the bushes on the brake pedal to seize? i called my dealer and they admitted that this was the cause!
they took the car back and relaced the bushes and touch wood i havent had a problem since

this is a strange one as some people said it was a recall issue, but the dealer said it was not.....worth checking although you didnt mention that your brakes were stuck on so this could be a bum steer

mine is a 2013 carrera S4 Cab thats why i thought i would mention it

Also had this issue and several other warnings came on as well. Took it to my OPC who said it was a common and known fault caused by sticky brake pedals. They fixed it FoC and it has not reoccurred yet!!

Thanks for your help - I looked at a few web sites and two themes emerge. 2013 year and sticking brake pedal. I will contact my dealer and let you know the outcome. Interestingly the brakes did feel very strange the second time the fault occurred. Thanks again

I have now looked into this a little further and it transpires that this brake pedal bush seizure is a known fault, identified in a service bulletin as affecting 2013 - 991 and 981 cars. It was not subject recall which is surprising as could have safety implications. I have found quite a few examples on the web and will be booking the car in for examination ASAP. My car is Sept 2013 registered so out of guarantee - but I will argue my case for goodwill.

I thought from the 991 on they have a 3 year warranty? If it's in a service bulletin shouldn't they do it free anyway? Either way I wouldn't be without my extended warranty!

My 991 probably one of the last with 2yr warranty - will let members know how problem dealt with by Porsche. Since retiring only do very low mileage in Porsche (c2000 / yr ) and even before retiring didn't take out extended warranty. Had far too many new Porsche from 964 on and this is first time had any problems - perhaps just been lucky!

Salisbees what year/model is your car - was it in or out of warranty when fixed.

when you do go back i woud be interested to hear what they have to say as this woud be outrageous if it has been a reported problem....i would also ask them to replace the pads if you have been driving round with your brakes stuck on?

Car booked in next week and good job too. Hot day yesterday and brakes kept seizing on, very difficult because had to put foot under brake pedal and push upwards to release, not good when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc. cos brakes also seize when slowing down so constantly needed to release by upward pressure! I'd say verging on dangerous. Hope that Porsche GB monitor this site.

Porsche Centre Silverstone confirmed pedal bush problem, replaced and all seems fine now. Service Reception and Workshop Controller very helpful.
Pleased to report that Silverstone submitted Good Will Claim which was dealt with speedily by Porsche GB ( less than 48 hrs ) and resulted 100% refund.
In support I had called Customer Service - Porsche GB and gave them some background information.
All in all a good outcome-thanks again to those of you who took the trouble to comment.

I am a little surprised that the issue isn't fixed by OPC's as a matter of course during a service. If it is a known problem you would think it would be resolved "invisibly" before it becomes an issue rather than wait for it to manifest itself.

Same fault with 981 series cars. Porsche policy is to replace only if problem reported.

Yes I understood that 981 series were affected - 2013 manufacture as with 991. Pity Porsche wasn't proactive cos potentially a safety issue (albeit remotely so)
