991.2 Space Saver Spare Wheel Question

Hi Everyone

I have a 991.2 Targa S and I’m wondering if anyone within PCGB has a spare wheel solution for their 991?

I’m aware of the Porsche Recovery add on to the used Porsche Warrenty which some owners rely on….

I know for close to £1k (just for the collapsible wheel but -10% PCGB discount) you can buy from an OPC. However, it pretty much fills the frunk due to the angle the 19” wheel has to be located (diagonally) as it appears too large to fit vertically without contacting the bonnet lid - I believe…

Has anyone trialed successfully the readily available 986/987/996 non collapsible wheel on their 991? Or is there an issue with clearing the callipers on the front particularly.
It would be a cheap ‘emergency’ solution & more importantly, doesn’t take up too much room….👍

Any advice gratefully received & thanks a lot in advance 😉

Hi Wayne,

I think the main issue with any spare wheel is what to do with the wheel you’ve removed, especially if the boot is full of luggage!😲

The front wheel might just fit into an empty boot, but I doubt that the larger rear wheel would fit? I have a 987.2 Cayman and I reckon that I could just about get the rear wheel through the rear hatch and on to the engine cover, but I’m sure it would be very difficult to manoeuvre such a bulky object on to the back seats of your 991, although I suppose that with the roof down you could drop it in from the top on your Targa?🤔

Hi Jeff

I’ve managed to find the answer I’m looking for, Road Hero produce a wheel specifically for my car which easily fits into the frunk so that’s an easy & relatively cheap solution…. As for the punctured wheel, yes inside a suitable bag (which comes as part of the RH kit), & drop it through the open roof onto the back seats (when folded down) - will be the order of the day if the worst should happen😉👍
Thanks for your comments..
