991.1 Turbo S Tyres

My Pirellis need replacing again after only 6500 miles. Last time I replaced them only Pirellis were available for the rear wheel size.

I have been told that Michelin Club Sport 4 will fit. Does anyone have any information or views on them. I am looking for longevity rather than performance

After much research and trying different tyres on my 991.1 Turbo I have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. They are great:[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large"] hot or cold [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large"]for wet or dry, road and trackdays. They are smoother, quieter, faster and they turn in notably[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large"] better on road and track than anything else that I tried. [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large"]305/30 ZR 20[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large"] weren't available in N rating. This is a consideration if you have a Porsche extended warranty. Although the Wet rating is A, the N rated version are Wet rated B. They come with a deep tread and have worn very little so far.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
305/30 ZR 20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres will fit, but are not 'N' rated for use on Porsche and will not therefore pass the 111 point inspection for extended warranty. They are still premium, top tyres though.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 are 'N' rated as are Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 - both available in Turbo 'S' sizes.

I have 21" Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres with NO rating as a factory fit on a Panamera ST. I did not initially respond as you were asking about a 991 TurboS (I found Dunlops very good). Michelin Sport 4 tyres are fairly new and getting the various approvals like Porsche N ratings sometimes does not coincide with launch. I would double check with an OPC.
 
991 Turbo S comes on 20" rims and MPS4's of the appropriate size are not currently N rated.
Michelin will be at this week's Festival of Speed, so it may be worth checking if there are any plans to homologate them.

All I said was these things evolve so worth checking. I know that the post was about 20” and I gave feedback on the tyres I found good on a 991.2 turbo s.
 
Thanks all, sorry not to thank you all, before but I have been away (including a track day at Anglesey)

I also managed to pinch the record for our local sprint from a GT3, sounds easy but for "safety reasons” our sprint has a double bend in it! That just about finished my tires off and I have ordered the Michelin 4’s which my retailer assured me are N0 rated.

Any of you with ceramic brakes start saving up for new brake pads. Just had to change mine (never changed any pads ever on any car that I owned) at a meagre 14,540. I usually run my cars to about 30,000 before I change. I won't spoil the fun but it cost more than a full set of tyres!

Thanks for posting. It's great news MPS4S are now 'N' rated. [:)] Those are interesting sizes though as the stock factory Pirellis for 991 TTS are 245/35 ZR20 and 305/30 ZR20.

Have you had any clearance problem on full droop/rebound on the rear? Also, have you noticed any increase in the amount of understeer?

I've not yet replaced any brake components on the current car, but used to replace pads on my previous 997.2 TTS at around 50% wear, since I was doing quite a bit of overseas touring at the time, often in mountainous regions and didn't want to run out of brakes or damage expensive rotors whilst abroad.

The first pad replacement was on the rear at around 15K miles (PTV takes its toll on rear brakes). My last replacement was again on the rear and cost £500 including parts, labour and VAT.

The correct sizes are as you 245/35 ZR20 and 305/30 ZR20 standard on 991.1 Turbo S

 
OK, thanks for clarifying that.
It would be good, once you've done a couple of thousand miles, if you could post your impressions of them compared to the OE boots. It would provide useful information for those of us thinking of going the same route.

Will do but might be some time as I am only doing about 4000 miles a year in the Turbo.
