944 on Top Gear Again

I wasnt surprised considering the test lap car and the performance that its driver turned in.....

Bloody hell, a mate's just phoned to say his wife caught the 944's reg when they showed it at the start of tonight's episode & it's his old S2 [:D]

There was a thread on PH about Schumacher being at the track a few days ago and driving the Fezza so wondered if they were going to do the whole Stig thing with him. Amazing lap mind you !

As for who is driving the 944 looked from their preview clips at the start of the show that it will be JC.

The Evora seems very similar in terms of accomodation and performance to a coupe we all know very well.....!

My Wife baulked at the cost, I pointed out that mine was near £30k 21 years ago and so £50k for a car that performs almost the same with 21 years of inflation/deflation seems entirely reasonable.

I'm still going with Ben Collins being the Stig [;)]

..... and you would be correct! [;)]

1st Stig (in Black) was the British Racing driver Perry McCarthy (who was fired after revealing that he was the Stig in his autobiography), then moved on to be Ben Collins.... this was confirmed in the Health and Saftey report of Richard Hammond's crash where the report stated Collins:
"worked closely with Top Gear as a high performance driver and consultant."

lasts nights Schumacher revelation as the stig I think you will find will be a little 'stunt' - and probabily the only way that they were allowed to have a Fxx - i.e. if Schumacher drove it.. [;)]

An S2 for £1500?? lets hope it's a pile of turd or values will sink even further.

My mate sold it about 6yrs ago with 130,000 miles on it. It was a good car at the time but a lot can happen in six years [;)]. Have a look on BBC iPlayer at last night's episode start & if you freeze-frame through it you can see the reg & the S2 badge on the back. You can see JC driving it on ice too against the 300ZX & a couple of proper iceracing cars, the 944 looks a bit battered (probably from the racing), no sign of the Capri though.

I guess it'll be a similar story to the 928 JC bought, he'll have over-reached & spent his entire budget on a very poor example for comedy effect.

S2s arent hard to find for £1,500.

Any S2 being sold for £1500 is either going to very ropey or the seller is going to be desperate. Personally if I had my time again I'd be looking for the best S2 out there, as it's still going to be cheaper than doing sills/belts/clutch and all the other stuff that'll need doing.

Alas buyers at the moment are thinking short term outlay, not long term cost so the cheaper cars are no doubt selling quickly. I'm sure there are plenty of them out there too, including this one:

There are good and bad in all price ranges. As an owner since 1992 I am experienced enough to evaluate the cars that I have seen.

Well if JC has the 944 then it will probably turn out that he wins in it and will get all teary eyed about it at the end - though he'll probably come up to some conclusion along the lines of "Despite the 944 being the best car in the line up, my favourite was actually the worst"! Enjoyed the race though. Classic TG - pure entertainment for entertainments sake. Just the ticket for a Sunday evening.

I know I'm joining this one a bit late, but here's a screenshot from the trailer TG showed in episode 1, which I've just started watching.....

I can't make quite make out the registration number though.

If JC starts driving it into other cars and painting it by hand and then smacking it with a mallet like usual i will be gutted...[&o]

I really hope they don't bash a 944 up in one of their usual challenges......however i have no concerns that they will damage the value of my S2. There is no comparison between a 1500 quid 944 with huge mileage, poor history, rust, leaks etc. with a nice well cared for example. As always condition is everything. For example did their supercar for 10000 quid damage the value of nice ferrari dino's?
