718 Cayman GT4 is here – at long last.!

Great debate guys regarding 718 GT4 availability and potential numbers. I guess the main difference is with the 981 GT4 there was not a GTS version with the same engine unlike the 718 , therefore potentially making the 718 GT4 less exclusive 🤔. At the end of the day, for me personally ,I am very happy with mine and consider it great value compared to a base 992 carrera which costs more 😁

PS loving the Michelin PS4S which are getting some use this winter. Might switch back to Cup2s in April though 👍

keen to hear about V2.

happy with the valve controller as a first step but coming from a 981 I need that bit more drama to be totally happy.

Seem to be quite a few options but there are precious few sound clips and videos .. really want to hear one in the flesh before buying.

would be interesting to know if anyone else has any of the below and can record some clips ...

these are the exhausts I'm considering ..

1) JCR

2) Lichfield

3) Ninemeister

4) IWS

5) Cargraphic

I've just spoken to 9m and my car is going to them in a fortnight to have the v2 exhaust fitted which should be back from the fabricators late this week or the beginning of next. The 4.5" tailpipes are also due to land with 9m this week so all is good. They'll also check the exhaust valve operation at the same time, which we suspect is non-sealing pipes on the silencer.

Tif - the problem with trying to hear them in the flesh is that not that many people have bought them due to wanting to maintain their warranty with no quibbles. Plus lots of folks just don't want to mod their cars. Couple the small number that do with having several options on the market and the numbers with each option start to get quite small. Across here, PistonHeads and Rennlist (mostly US based) I only know of me with the 9m option, several Soul exhausts in the US, a few JCRs, an Akrapovic in the US and that's it. I think you'll have to take a punt on the one you think will suit you best at a price you're happy with.

A quick update my exhaust situation.

The fabricators are waiting on an inconel order which has been held up, so my exhaust is still waiting for the v2 updates to be completed. I went to 9m today to have my PSE fixed as it's not working but it seems it's the solenoid that's at fault, so I need to get it to my OPC for a warranty claim. I'm just waiting on the service department to call me back but I guess it'll be a couple of weeks until it can be booked in. I'm wondering now if a large part of the drone I could hear with the original 9m exhaust was down to the valves not working...

Once my car is fixed it will be shipped down to the exhaust fabricators for 2-3 days to ensure the updated v2 exhaust fits correctly. I offered to have this done rather than have the exhaust shipped up only for fitment to fail and delay things even more. This way, once scheduled in, it should be the final exhaust session and develpoment will hopefully be complete.

It's all fun and games, but what else is there to do at the moment? :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like a plan re the v2 exhaust fit Dave, bearing in mind your problems last time. Once you get the solenoid fixed and the updated exhaust in place you’ll be good to go … and the weather should be on the up too!

Quite the turnaround from the man not wanting to track his car to itching to be out! 😄.

Speaking of not having much else to do, don’t know about you guys but I need a diet after all this lockdown drinking. Making somewhat of a mockery of the weight saving efforts the engineers put in 😂

Yeah, these things happen :ROFLMAO:

I need the swimming pools to open again for sure. I've got around 6kg to lose ASAP...

Oh I reckon the weight I’ve gained is about the equivalent saved of a lightweight battery.

So I can get the weight reduction for cheaper, with some discipline :ROFLMAO:

Combine it with your swimming for double the gains (losses) :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness they seem a bit expensive for what they are, or am I looking at it the wrong way?

Nope, you're looking at it the same way that I am - which is why I haven't bought one yet!

I'll probably wait until my OEM battery packs up and decide what to do at that point...

I’ve just noticed that on the Configurator there are new colours available for both the GT4 and GTS: Shark Blue and Frozen Berry Metallic. The blue looks good but I’m not keen on the new metallic colour, although it probably looks better in the flesh and more appropriate for the GTS.

It looks as though ParkAssist (front and rear) is now standard on the GTS but is still a cost option for the GT4. Probably there’s been a price-hike too?

How's everyone getting on with their 718 GT4s?

Mine is probably going to have its Cup2s re-fitted over the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend if the weather warms up a bit, then on 6 May it's heading to Ninemeister for exhaust v2 fitting plus some chassis upgrades (rear toe-links and front camber plates). The aim is to get a decent amount of camber front and rear well within safe tolerance limits of the parts and when running standard ride height for a mixture of road and track use.

After that, I'm going to try and leave well enough alone until I find that parts need replacing or upgrading!

Taking mine out for a spin this evening 😁. Likewise, I am switching back to the Cup2s probably in May ready for Croft track day in June 👍

PS4S have been good in the colder weather 👍

Go for to chaps! Mind you, with the temperatures yo-yoing around at the moment who knows what we’re going to get in May?

Those old enough to remember Flanders and Swan might recall their “Song of the Weather” in which “Farmers fear unkindly May … frost by night and hail by day!” [:D]
