718 Boxster GTS ordered today. How long to wait for a build slot and delivery?

I have a 718 2.0 litre PDK on order, got call today from dealer, good news it is in build, will be ready for delivery early/mid November, BUT the price has gone up due to Sports Exhaust now as standard, about another £1000 on the invoice, also the new spec has higher emissions, up for 171 to 180,strange as they were trying to tell in the PSE was put on to help with the emission, now puts it into the next tax bracket, they want to increase first years charge from £570 to £885 - Meeting booked with them next week, to state my case, I only signed contract with the final spec on 20th September, now putting price up, cant say I am too happy.

I suspect you won't be the first to get caught out on a jump in the CO2 tax bands after the cars get re-tested post 1 September 2018 regulations. The bands are up to 170 then 190 and next is 225. It seems the 718 cars have a value/score of nine (9) worse than under the old testing rules.

For the GTS Old Value New value Impact

PDK 186 195 Moves to next tax bracket up to 225

Manual 205 214 (E) No movement still in 225 band

(E) = Estimate as Manual cars not yet available expected post 1 Jan 19.

Bands 1st Year Cost

151-170 £515 171-190 £830 191-225 £1240

I haven't heard anything about changes to the engines so I'm assuming this is all just the result of the new WLTP standard.

Porsche are going to have real problems with their CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) figures, if they don't get them down then they are going to be facing huge fines from the EU (mind you I suppose they will only be passed onto the poor customer...)

Porsche is consolidated within the overall VW group emissions count, unlike Bentley and Lambo.

I have checked the configuration today, if you want a manual car, it’s only a 718 S that’s currently available. Both the 2.0 litre 718 and the GTS are only PDK at the moment.

Just had a quick look and the Boxster S still seems to be the 2018 model not the 2019 like the Boxster and Boxster GTS

Went looking at Boxter's yesterday - dealer said that the Boxter S is being dropped - only the standard Boxter and GTS available now.

Hi Adrian,

For various reasons, have not been using the Targa 4S much this year and it seems such a shame that it just sits in the garage for so long, so I have also been considering selling it and going for another Boxster.. I am getting a test drive in a nearly new S tomorrow and GTS on Saturday, and will be hoping to sell the Targa and a runaround DS3 in exchange for a Boxster and Macan as I think the Macan will be a useable daily drive, with the Boxster a nice weekend car.

Its always a difficult day when these sort of decisions need to be made, and I must say, I do feel aprehensive going to a flat 4 after many 6 cylinder Porsches, so it will be interesting to see how the Boxster drives.

Hi David,

Nice to hear from you. i agree, always a tough decision. I miss my lovely Red Targa.

Macan fortunately, continues to bring great joy. Just coming up to 25k. I did the driving course in it in July at Abingdon. Picked up a load of useful tips.

My wife and I drove a manual S from a local OPC before we placed our order back in April. There were no manual GTSs around to test drive, so that was closest we could get, the car was really highly spec’d, costing over £73k, I recall, so in theory was a GTS apart from the power difference. It was such a strong car we knew making right decision. So not really a blind decision.

Since then had an S for a few days in July as a loaner from Reading and clocked up around 400 miles on a West Country trip. You will find fast and great fun. Steering is a delight. This was in a PDK. The push from the engine is very impressive especially low down. The torque is better than on the 991. By that I mean from 2K to 4K. Of course the engine does not sing....but I actually like the sound of the turbo 4 cyclinder.

We had a Porsche Experience Day in the summer when we finally got to drive the GTS, again a manual. It took ages for my smile to wear off. The extra power and finesse with the PTV over the S are very evident. I literally flew around Silverstone as my coach got me onto the racing lines, after a bit of driving out on the open roads. The gearbox is beautiful. Much better than my Targa. I managed to hit the rev limitator in 2nd. So was enthusiastic driving.

It seems my car will now be definitely a January 19 build. I expect to know the actual date towards the end of this month. This is good as we have wedding to go to late April near Bordeaux and have planned a nice trip around France to give it a good run out as the weather improves.

The emission change effective 1 Sep 18 certainly has impacted the niche cars in the Porsche range. The manual cars fall into this category. Another, I understand for example is the GT3 RS, they are not expected until mid year 2019 if you have been lucky enough to get an allocation.

Cheers

Adrian

They are! Though I'm biased, having a 718S Boxster and a Macan S petrol. A fantastic combination.

Following many hours on the Porsche and Autotrader websites recently, I decided that my thoughts to have a new Boxster and Macan instead instead of my very rarely used Targa would be the best route to take, to give me practically with one and enjoyable open top motoring with the other. So I decided to have test drives today at Porsche Solihull.

After the enjoyable driving experiances in both cars and once again considering my needs and the availability I decided to go for a New 718 Boxster and New ‘current model’ Macan.

Solihull had a brand new current style Sapphire Blue Macan in their showroom, lovely spec and a very good price and have managed to locate a New Black Boxster, again the spec I was looking for, within Sytner Group stock, so the two deals have now been done!

Looking forward to getting two very different, but great Porsches very soon and continuing pleasures from driving the great brand.

I’ll keep you all updated with my ownership experiances.

We were offered a December build but decided to wait for the next available GTS slot, which for Porsche Silverstone is February, partly because we're struggling to choose a colour from the now more limited pallet and are hoping something else might appear on the list.

David, congratulations, a wise choice.

The Boxster was obviously always going to be black, given your signature.

Yes, I am looking forward to collecting them now. The Targa 4S was a fabulous car, lovely to drive, but an expensive one to sit in the garage most of its life. I hope my latest ‘selection’ will give me some great driving pleasures, and be a useful car combination.

I must ensure I get to some local R8 meetings now to chat with you David.

For those of you that are interested, planning at UK are now saying it will be a February 19 build. No manuals in January 19. So this means at the back end of their estimate first provided in August 18.

This is the list of accredited Porsche cars as at 12/11/18 held in a register by ADAC. Not sure how often updated, bi monthly or monthly.

The 992 launched yesterday uses the same engine as 991.2 GTS so hence is now also accredited.

As Porsche get more of their cars through the process they will be added.

Note at moment no Cayennes or Manual cars for 718 or 992

I checked today with my OPC and the car is one of first on the production line with a Manual box to get a build slot in February 2019.

Will know precise date end of first week in January. The long wait is nearly over..........

The testing of the new C02 regime is incredibly complex. The Club should do a proper approved review on this....VW really do have a lot to answer for.

Update

The car arrives today into the Uk from the boat. Will be with OPC this Friday 1st March.

11th March 2019 is collection day. The long wait is nearly over.......
