Hello I'm a new member to the forum so please be gentle. I have just bought my first porsche a 68/ 912 from ebay and would like to know if anyone could point me in the direction of a good and fair priced shipping company that you may have used in the past. and any other info that may be of help. regards Andrew

Hi Andrew, welcome to the forum. First a few questions...

1. Is there any particular reason why you've posted this in the South West section of the forum? It would be better in the General Discussion area and would probably attract more responses.

2. Have you bought this car on eBay sight unseen (other than any pics)? Can't believe you have, but would be interested to understand.

3. My short answer is that I don't know of anyone who could help you to import from California, but as I mentioned above. Re-post your question into a different area in the forum and see what response you get.

Hi Garry
Thank you for the quick reply, Mad or not I bought the car from ebay sight unseen apart from pictures and talking to the company regarding the cars condition, yes I can see that there is a risk doing it like this, but the car runs and has little rust I'm told so hopefully things will be ok. I would have post in the general forum but thought I'd go local first.

Andrew,

There is only one person that I know of in this area that might be able to give you some advice, or if he doesn't, then might know a man who does, and this is Roger Bray. He of Roger Bray Restorations based near Exeter.

Roger does some business with the States so it would be worth giving him a call. Details are as follows:

Tel: 01404 822005

Web: www.rogerbrayrestoration.com

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the info,I have now found a company called neptune shipping who came back with a price of $960 Plus afew extras when it arrives in southampton, it sounds good to me I hope it does to you?. I'm already counting down the days to seeing the car and its not leaving the states for afew more days. once again thanks for your speedy replys. regards Andrew

very sorry to say but you won't get the advise and help you need from the PCGB. importing is a bit Taboo here.. but there is lots of advise and help to be had on www.ddk-online.com from many who have and continue to do just what you are now doing, they will be able to help you with all the paperwork, customs, taxs and insurence and registering your going to have to deal with.

sorry guys just passing through saw the post about importing etc..give me a call if you need any advice as ive imported hundreds of vehicles including porsche from around the world...v.a.t...paperwork...etc etc etc

Okay welcome to the forum. Please post also on DDK-online.com as it is paramount that you get all the help you can to prevent that you land yourself in a bit of rut.

user 912_uk (mark, both on pcgb and DDK fora) is an ace in sniffing out deals and ask him : he will come up with the best deal as I think he is buying in january and shipping over a container from San Fran. The difficulties start when a specialist starts poking your car.Its early days and we have long nights: so for now congratualtions for your purchase and we will see what the damages will be...[]

Make sure you get documentation from the seller as you will get a 17.5% VAT bill for the total of the purchase price AND the shipping combined.

Also worth writing to Porsche NOW to get proof of manufacture in Europe as you can then get the additional 10% car tax down to £50 but you MUST have the letter from Porsche as proof before you apply to Customs.

The PCA (Porsche Club America) offers excellent service - check out the link at the bottom of the page:

http://www.pca.org/members/

I know Mark (912UK) has done this on several of his cars so might be able to give some advice?

Also worth noting that you ask for both the BUILD SHEET as well as the SPECIFACATION SHEET (options etc) as the latter is free but usually forgotten.

Best regards,

Bert
