4RS/SRS Potential Brake Duct Fault

Folks

For those with 4RS/SRS, some owners on Rennlist have identified an issue with the front brake duct pipework during build.

From Rennlist

'Please inspect your brake ducts immediately.
We have identified several GT4 RS vehicles produced at the Volkswagen plant that feature a blocked brake duct on the passenger side. Upon comparison with correctly assembled vehicles, the root cause appears to be the use of an incorrect pipe type on the assembly line.
The impact is that the passenger-side brake lacks proper ducting, making it significantly more prone to overheating under extreme track conditions. We have already documented three such cases within our local group of 147 GT4 RS vehicles.

Recommended Solution:
Visit your local Porsche dealership and request a warranty replacement for the affected brake duct. One of our group members successfully obtained a warranty repair even after their vehicle's warranty had expired — a commendable gesture from Porsche in acknowledging this manufacturing oversight.

May be worth checking yours.

Surely that should have been spotted during assembly and end-of-line rectification carried out Dan? Clearly Murphy’s Law in operation.😀

It doesn’t say much for Porsche’s QA procedures … nor for dealers’ PDIs!🙄

I guess these things happen. Would very much doubt that pdi would spot it unless you had one good one bad paired next to each other with the bonnet up at the same time. And even then which one is “wrong”.

But. If it goes back to a run/batch issue then Porsche should issue a recall for potentially affected cars.

I'm afraid there's been deterioration in factory sign-offs for quite a long time now. The last two new 911's I've had have each suffered defects straight from the showroom with settings well outside factory tolerances. Mention it to Service Managers and they will say it's due to delivery transportation disruption.

If Porsche's chassis are so vulnerable, it doesn't give us much hope for our cars on UK pot-holed roads! 😳

I really think geo alignment should be included as part of the PDI prior to customer collection. It should be much easier now that many PC's have this new drive-through examination facility.

Clive

My local OPC makes a deliberate point of throwing away the output from the drive through “geo” check. One time they didn’t it told me that one of the brand new rears on my car were worn beyond serviceable limits and the rear geo that was done 4 days previous was seriously out - reality was that the laser had scanned the tyres and found groove on the right and no groove (tread block) on the left thus determining a massive imbalance.

They are pure gimmick
