356 Forum YOUR RESPONCE PLEASE

Yeah I talk with the guys over there on and off and the site is based on split window cars and there is some nice stuff on there.

Don't put me down just yet. I will be calling Mark from R Bray later today for the floor section I need. Progress has been good of late with many parts being polished and bagged for the assemberly.

Gear box I hope to look at later in Jan.

I am opening the floor up at the moment and once the floor is done the car is going upside down for the cleaning of the underseal off and redo .. plus thenI can wax and rust proof the car..

Then it's booked in for Jan for the gapping with Terry and then I can get her back for the paint..

I am looking for a carpet set at the moment but most of the carpets are $$$$££££ and I can make one for less once I get the fabric. So looking in to this..

Money saved for parts and sat in bank so going right at it.. I said it would be at classic Le Mans 2008 but I hope to get it on the road for July 2007.

mark, the company who fitted my german square weave carpet gets it from a guy down your way, he does all the original materials, i think your've mentioned him before, do you have the carpet patterns, if not i've saved my old set so you can copy off those if need be[;)]
fitting a new floor is easy peasy, you wont have any probs there by the look of your craftsmanship[:)]

YES YES YES !!!!!! Please what a star not only the engine bay pattern but the carpet set...

Yes I would love to borrow that. i have about 50% of one and I can make hardbaord copies for the future. I have a industrial sewing machine and I also have access to 2 carpet places one in the US and one in Germany. but I will ask Southbound if I get a little trade discount as I am in the fabric trade.

Great stuff.. Yep the floor so far looks ok I have the car cleared now with no stuff in or on it so it's able to be worked on with ease. I have some concern with the centre part of the floor but will get under the car to have a better look at that..

I must admit I am looking forward to getting stuck into the car now. I still have the 65 912 to do as well which is getting far less attention ops ..but not too much to do to get it back on the road and upfor sale. To fund the 356 bits and bobs I need. But with my Scottish Power shares which have gone though the roof in the last week I might be able to keep the 65 912 and fund the last parts I need for the 356 .... greedy I know :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Please see my statement posted in the general chat section of the forum.

As I no longer wish to be part of the club where there is little if not no commitment from the club for my model of car I feel there is no longer any need for me to continue to bang my head against a brick wall. ( please read has I have done the home page of PCGB where it states what the out line of the club is.... I am not going to reprint it read it for your self. Then tell me this is what you are doing ? I think NOT ) the odd bit of photocopied paper rambling on about yet more RHD values !!! every other month......

What I wanted to do with this forum ( that was NOT being used ) was to give people mainly new younger members ( and older ones when they know the forum is there and their input could help others ) something to feel part of. Some thing for which we can all build on. Valuable advice with the use of pictures. This could help and be a benifit to all. For People who's cars are finished and to those who are building a car on a budget.

The 356 side does NOT cater for people who are runing cars on a budget. But as the RD who I feel has no interest in this and has his own ajenda I am leaving. I am sure the RD will think thank god for that he has gone. But what he and others will not understand until it's too late is. That you have just let out the door yet another young dedicated 356 owner, this club doesn't see many of these.

That is why I hold my head high and walk. I am more than happy to offer my services to another Classic Club. ( for which I do already )

The club has to at some time confront this eleatist snobby attitute to money and get back to grass roots.. ( read the above statement of the clubs home page )

Any way so as not to be bitter and I am not, I am keeping the faith.

I wish you all PCGB the best of luck and I hope at some point you will ( and you know who you are I have had phone calls to a number of PCGB people high up and the no so high up.. ) confront your biggest problem and call his bluff !!!
As I think you will find that there are a number of people who are seen to be part of that group who are infact not happy about it atall. eg the lack of support for new members the foundations might not be as strong as one person thinks they are........

As a club you have nothing to offer younger members It's a REAL issue and one that is happening NOW!!!, and these members are the future of the club. Classic car owners are more likely to keep with one make of car and there for the best and most long serving of most loyal club members ( compaired to eg a 996 owner meaning a newer car owner who may just as easy go and buy another make in a years time.. )

Any way if you want to follow my restoration progress I am more than happy to talk to you or even if you just want to watch the progress at DDK or my home page www.classic356.co.uk

I will leave the PCGB link on there as a sign of some hope things will change here at PCGB for younger members who are keen.

Just for your attention.. I am NOT a trouble maker. I just point out your weakness I then asked to help and I am very vocal about it.. and got no where. I hope your happy. If that is a crime then I am gilty but I know from talks with anumber of you over the last 2 years. I am coming from the right direction but not doing it the right way.. well so what its a hobby not a political game.. I don't do politics. I get my hands dirty and keep the 356 and 912 faith..

This is a great shame & a great loss - particularly to the 356/912 members of the PCGB.

I don't currently own a 356 (but will again sometime soon hopefully) but I have met Mark on a number of occasions & all I can say is that he is the very type of person that many people who own older models joined the club to meet - someone who will go out of his way to help others solve problems/locate parts/recommend specialists, etc.

Just for information, I am not 'one of the new boys' - I have been a member of the PCGB for 20+ years - but won't be once my current membership is up for renewal...

mark, your better off spending that bit more time in the workshop on your 356 than try and better this club, why dont you try and build up your website for the 356's[;)]

I think my situation must be a common one.

I wanted to buy a Porsche 356, so I joined PCGB, immediately disappointed by the lack of 356 info. However I did find a vehicle in the classified section of the Porsche Post.

Post after Post arrived with very little 356 info.

Managed to find all the services and help I needed on the internet, including another 'nearly' free club with much more interest in 356s.

I asked Fred Hampton a few questions, he was very helpful and well informed, but when renewal time came around, I thought why bother.

Just a bit of free feedback.

Hello Steven welcome to the forum . . . . great first post [:(]

How about a picture of your car to cheer us all up [:D].

Why IS all 356 info sent direct to Register Members rather than published in PP? (as every other Register does)

It means any useful information is kept within a very small community, rather than the membership at large. A bit like having a forum without a 356 area.
Or it it the ultimate form of expression of the "Porsche should have stopped making cars immediately mine was built" attitude that seems to be prevalent throughout the club - and the rest of us really are just not worth it?

Interesting point Mark, I've often wondered that myself. I think a prerequisite of future appointments of RSs should be that they contribute a well written column for PP every month or at least the Assistant should. When I was RS for the SC Register people often commented that they enjoyed reading the SC Register column and it was the first thing they looked for in PP (they all owned SCs before you ask [8D]) I point that out not to blow my own small trumpet but just to show that Register columns are a good read for members and are appreciated, I read them all, there is often interesting stuff in there.
A 356 Forum is just 'right ' it should be here - end of story and a 356 Register column should be in PP every month too.

is that a 356c Steven?
hopefully the bits of mine will start getting reunited in early 2007[8D] then there will be no stopping me.

Yes Helen,
The 'chase' shot was from 'the other club's' 2005 Northern Run.

I Thought I'd try this forum as well.

Steven

Hi Steven Well it's great to see some 356 action here on the forum the whole thing is an interesting situation and one I am not proud of as an Ex member, eg the lack of support for the future of 356's in the home club here in the UK. Lets see what the club management think and do to genuinly look into what is a faily major problem IMHO within the club, this closed unit.

I have responded to Phil's comments and others here
