Something very special happened earlier this week... An opportunity arose a few days ago to buy this matching numbers Porsche 912 believed to be a 1968 SWB car. After a road trip to Ilkley, West Yorkshire last Thursday the deal was done.

The car is a Californian import brought over about 7/8 years ago. A 1968 model built at the Karmann factory in late 1967 with the 616/39 USA spec engine that has recently been fully rebuilt, it now sports the classic Fuchs wheels. The car is currently Silver, previously Red but original colour is Sand Beige (6807).

Bodyshell needs some work and few parts missing but it’s gonna be an epic project! Many thanks to Craig for letting the car go and as always David Vardy at VrD Motorsport for sorting collection to the Retro Barne workshop!

I'm now looking to trace the history of the cars origins but have been told by Porsche GB and Porsche Club GB that they have stopped doing both the Certificate of Authenticity and the Letter of Origin so any ideas how to go about it?

Thanks, i've sent an email over to Germany with the VIN no, see what they come back with...

You didn't get a lot of information from the old CoA - engine and chassis number with a few options stated. Out of interest, did you have some more history to confirm it's a matching numbers car? 68MY cars have a lot of one year only pieces by the way. Enjoy the project. Ian

Hi, we’re you able to obtain any further info on your enquiry?
Im trying to do some research on a 69 912 that’s in the US but so far my local OPC is not able to assist.
Any advice on where to go much appreciated ( clean please).
Larry

Hi Larry,

As Porsche no longer do the COA they will only give you basic car details with a copy of the V5. I got the NOVA paperwork sorted for mine, which is actually much easier by post over the HMRC office in Belfast rather than on email. I'm progressing with the DVLA to get the UK number plate and V5. Try the 912 forum, theres a few guys on there that seem able to get the Porsche Kardex for a fee.

Hi, thanks for the advice.
Shame Porsche have changed their attitude. Makes it much more difficult to decide on a purchase nowadays.
In the past just a few details often helped with providence ( apart from physically viewing the car of course).
You read lots of horror stories where cars have been " butchered” so much in the past that any originality they had is long gone.
Would not want to pay big money nowadays for a "ringer”.
I’ll try the cardex route maybe.
Thanks
Larry.
