18" wheels question

I know Porsche did, but if fitting 18" wheels is it essential to fit the additional 993 steering assembly support bracket?

Recommended.
Support is cheap and (relatively) easy to fit. If the factory did it that way, why not.

Google is a wonderful thing.............[&:]

Rich, I wouldn't bother with the bracket.
There may well be a case for fitting it due to the extra forces which may be generated with the increased grip of the larger wheels, especially on track. However if you are only going to push the car in and out of the garage to polish off the wax out of the sunlight, you may well get away with not fitting it! [:D]

I've searched the 993 PET and can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Rich,

Try this...

1. support bracket - 993.347.131.02

also required;

2. allen bolt - M8x60 (Qty. 2) 999.218.102.09
3. allen bolt - M8x80 (Qty. 2) 999.218.103.09

The allen head bolts are torqued to 32.5 ft-lbs.

Thanks for your help Paul - where do you get this information?

I've looked around and it seems I can buy a €45 kit from the likes of Carnewal which contains the bracket and 2off M8x80mm bolts. I assume these replace the 2off M8x60mm bolts which are already on the car. To clarify, I think only need to get the bracket and the 2 longer bolts? - #1 & #3 on your list

EDIT: JUST FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION...

In traditional "dottenzie i's undcrossenzie t's" Porsche fashion, the 2off M8x60mm bolts are to replace those (I guess 'use once only') that may have to be loosened to allow the bracket to be installed.

Rich,
be aware, the old bolts will almost certainly need heating to get them out because of the thread sealant - small butane torch is fine, bolts are not high tensile and will break if pure brute force is used[]

It is, as is Amazon --- bought my first thing from them last month and was very impressed.

Just thought that the club might do a roaring trade in such bits n' pieces .. [8D]

Rich, that is the case, best to use bolts once only........which is why I have a rather nice collection of used big red caliper bolts! [8|]
