OMG!

This was just pootling around as well. I think that my new (but as yet unfitted) airflow meter has arrived at just the right time.

Are you sure it's only the AFM? How old is the lambda sensor? Any vacuum leak?

I dont think that an 88 Turbo has a lamda? Vacuum leaks Im not sure about - I intend to buy new vacuum lines from Jon Mitchell though as theyre probably all original.

These are full to full calculations, so its always possible that this is a freak low caused by an early pump click-off, but it gave me a fright.

Have a look at the connectors behind reference sensors, the round one will have a plug if you have no lambda. You should be able to run one in any case, '88 cars were pre wired for this too.

I've got down to 15mpg or less twice. Once when the calipers were stuck and the brakes locked on, the other time when the fuel had all leaked out through a rusty line. That time was about 15 miles per tankfull. []

I wonder how many here know what the official Porsche figures are for our cars.

944 lux

urban driving : 24.8 mpg
constant 56 mph: 40.4 mpg
constant 75 mph: 32.5 mpg

944 turbo

urban driving : 22.8 mpg
constant 56 mph: 44.1 mpg
constant 75 mph: 32.1 mpg

Worthy of note is how much more efficient a forced induction engine is at 56 mph compared to N/A which is how it should be, of course once you start to use copious amounts of boost these figures go right out of the window. These engines were some of the first so called World engines that were capable of top performance whilst maintaining very good efficiency no matter what part of the world the car was used in and the bad fuel that was available there.

These figures are taken from my 1986 Drivers Manual.

These were full to full calculations, and I suspect that the second full was fuller than the first full. I have a refurbished AFM now though, which Im about to fit.

On the other hand... some nice person might have slipped the lump from a 928 in there without you noticing? [8D]

If it works then let me know as I'm still only averaging 17 mpg and my afm tests ok as does just about everything else so I would like to know if it works as I may just swap it any way. It's got to be cheaper than 230 miles to a tank

I'm getting 28mpg

Mixed motorway, and town. Motorway 3k -3.5k revs I'm sure u can work out the speed. Around town tend to sit about 2k

That's with a few full boost pulls as well. 97oct or v power. I didn't get a few miles less on the v power on my last test.
