You need to ascertain which process is being supplied as there are several alternative offerings and compounds available - take a look on the Gtechniq website for details.

When my 991.2 Turbo S was treated from new, it was done entirely undercover and as a 3 day process because some "curing" of the product was required between stages.

Hi there - first thing - when you say this is a Gtechniq agent - is that confirmed from the Gtechniq website or is it just that the detailer says they are using Gtechniq - as like you say, I find it very surprising they would do it mobile. I’ve had the Gtechniq 7 year product done twice, and the dealership price is considerably more than going direct to the same detailer they use, privately. If its a new car, usually the dealer will allow your detailer to go to their stock room when the car arrives to do it prior to them handing the car over to you. Usually its the preparation of the car that takes the time and needs the indoor conditions, which is why a detailer would typically do it over 2 days. See Reepgroup.co.uk for example.
It is definitely worth it though IMO, will make the car much easier to clean and looking in showroom condition.
The ceramic coating industry is developing rapidly Now with a lot more products available, and more mobile retailers, and self service versions available. For me the real value is having the car cleaned/polished/repaired to the highest standard and then having it applied. You could do yourself if inclined, but for something that lasts 7 years, I think its worth paying a professional to do it.

A fairly old post I realise but it still seems to be a hot topic .... and I could use some help.

I am considering having Gtechniq treatment on a new Macan (delivery imminent) and while the local Gtechniq agent is quoting significantly less than the dealer for seemingly the same job I was surprised that this is a mobile service and could/would be done in the open - or possibly my garage at best. Given the process and the cost I would have thought some kind of controlled environment would be needed afterall a bit of a breeze and surely they will be rubbing dust into the shiny new paint?

As others have said, your new car will need proper preparation before the final coating and best done in a studio.

Some recommend Ceramic coating a car has many benefits, not least that it will keep your car looking good as new, even after years of use. I spent my money and it is good going to the nearest detailing shop and Just had my entire car done with ceramic pro. Have had Gtechniq treatments three times on two cars, both were used white Cayman`s from the local OPC. The finish and protection has overall been excellent, by far the best option I have ever taken.

The treatments were the `dealer only` Platinum option, five year warranty with annual inspections. The second car was re-done after year one as it was deemed to be `failing` … not adhering correctly. The only thing that I had noticed was that the roof had lost it`s `sheen` and felt `flat`.

I always assumed that the treatments were applied indoors, the OPC has it`s own detailer trained by an accredited Gtechniq dealer.

I cant say I’ve heard of products needing a week to cure. Mine had Gtechniq 7 year applied and picked up the next day from memory. Although caution isn’t a bad thing, certainly keeping it garaged if you can, doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
(but of course you have to weigh this against the desire to get in your new car and be driving!)

Ceramic type coatings generally are best applied inside, and the car is usually kept inside because there's a 12 hour period when the car shouldn't get wet, humid, condensation on etc while the ceramic properly cures.

I've done mine at home before, but the car always lives in the garage so no issue to me.

hi all, the new GTS is now on the production line, due for delivery in February, and so I'll be registering it in March.
I am really faced with a dilemma and would appreciate thoughts. In short, I cant decide whether or not to go ahead with the ceramic paint protection.
The new car will not be a daily driver, it will be mainly weekends / summer tours, and I expect 6000-8000 miles at most per year. Its kept garaged, and I a already a fastidious (some may say obsessive) detailer.
I've done my research and narrowed it down to the Gtechniq range (and I'm not really interested in the debate between the different ceramic products).
My feeling is this - its expensive - £1100-£1200 to do the whole car, glass, wheels - but as this is a car I anticipate keeping for a long time, if it helps maintain the paintwork, then isnt a huge expensive compared to the value of the car - but its still a lot of money. What concerns me more is that clearly the protections doesnt prevent scratching, and I wonder about the scale of correction that would be needed to a car that gets a scratch and has had the coating. That sort of money would allow bodyshop repairs as needed to correct any scratches.
Thoughts - if it were you - would you spend the money?

Hi. Ceramic is excellent for helping keep clean but im not sure it adds much if any protection? I have a Targa 4 GTS which ive had for 6 years and ppf’d from new. Car gets swapped in tomorrow for a turbo s which ive had ppf’d too. The Targa looks as good today as it was when I first took possession and i’ll be more than a little sad to see it go. I had a Cayenne coupe as a daily and ppf’d the front only, ceramic all over. Huge regret as front remained like new but the rest had minor paint issues after 3 years. Ppf is more expensive (shop around) but provides proper protection and locks in the original paint work. I hope you enjoy your GTS like I have mine. I do genuinely think its the real sweet spot.
