PCCB Brake caliper problem

When changing the brake fluid the technician snapped the bleed nipple off, problem to be resolved possible caliper replacement required. Technician stated that this is a common problem (something about it being painted over at the factory?) although I have not heard of nor experienced this before. Brake fluid has been changed before with no issues.
Anyone experienced this problem?

OPC Silverstone snapped one off when servicing a previously owned Boxster, they had it drilled out and replaced and did not charge for it.

Same thing happened to me last year , dare i ask which OPC? my option is they are getting slopy workmanship technicians, i have owned over 25 porches over last 30 years this is first time this has happened & I was told I had to pay for a new calliper as Porsche does not do repairs, as that mine had seized , so I asked for the calliper to be given back to me for inspection , I had my local MOT garage just drill out the broken nipple its was 5 minute job easy & replaced with a brand new nipple . was very disappointed with the OPC as I had to battle to get a discount as replacement was quoted over £1500 for new calliper, my car under warranty & less than 16k miles. I think some garages just looking to max out on each customer they see.

If the car is in the care of a garage and damage is caused, it is their responsibility to rectify the problem. Unless there is a disclosure before hand about what they won't be liable for, it is their problem. Don't accept excuses.

Was this an OPC? If so, complain to the Service Manager, and failing that the Dealer Principle. If no joy there go to Porsche GB.

yes it was an OPC . i did complain they went to Porsche HQ for a contribution to cost of the new calliper as a good will gesture, but No manager at the opc came to see me or explain anything further the day I came to collect my car its pretty poor service considering I was existing customer, & own 2 other Porsche cars. unfortunately ive heard this about a few OPCs, would not use them if didnt have to because of warranty.

Sounds pretty normal. Most OPC's are just franchises anyway. My local was taken over by Porsche GB Retail. Have to say that the good staff all seem to have left. Service seems definatley worse and pricing has gone through the roof.

There is definately a culture of arrogance with OPC's that you will never question and just spend money regardless. If thats now the corporate culture they might think about that when sales decline. The fact the indie and restoration market continue to grow should speak volumes.

When I had my 991.1 in for an 8 year service it cost (suspiciously) £991 + VAT. After Reading took over I got a quote for an 8 yr on my Macan S. £2K+! Hilarious!

Repairing a broken brake calliper bleed nipple is straight forward, common and can be carried out by most competent auto engineers inexpensively - often it can be done on the car. Ring around and get some quotes. Your chosen workshop may need to collect the car if unroadworthy..

The problem the OPC has is its hourly rate making it uneconomic to effect a repair when compared to fitting a new calliper as this is often quicker and therefore cheaper in labour and involves less future warranty issues.

It's annoying that a grease monkey does the damage and his masters won't fess up, but that's the way of the world. 😬😬😬A decent calliper repair will be quite acceptable.

Regards,

Clive
