How long have you owned your Turbo?

When you've done 90k+ miles in one its been left in many car parks, Its a bit of metal. Well insured if something goes wrong. Much rather do a million miles and take my chances rather than tuck it away for a non rainy day and do 12 miles a year. 😛
I'll have you know I've done over 1k miles a year, for the last 4 years. :p

Well granted these days mine only comes out for car meets averaging approx 1k miles per year. However, over my 26 year ownership I have covered 136k miles....she may be a bit of a garage queen today but with 225k on the clock she's not been shy of the road and not afraid of a little rain or snow.....🤣
 
In theory - but on the way to the MOT I noticed that the odometer has stopped working :D

That job looks a right PITA...

Sender on the gearbox would be your first port of call, did you re-connect it? It's up top if I recall correctly, 2 pin plug.........

Speedo works, just the odometer that isn't working, I stupidly reset the trip counter (without the engine running in the garage whilst stationary) so that I could record the engine run-in mileage. Not sure if that is what broke it but could have already been broken and just coincidence. Looks like I have to take apart the odometer and count the teeth on the plastic gear to work out if I need a 21 tooth or 22 tooth gear...

Sorry if this has been mentioned before and I missed it….
Our cars are coming to a sweet spot ownership wise that makes up for the massively expensive spare parts!!
I have a 1983 Toyota and have just switched it over to “Historic” status …
This means no more TAX or MOT ,insure ,service and good to go!
Who will be the first to have a 944 with free tax!My Blue one goes Historic in 2028!I am going to get it out and about next year in prep for this.
Good though eh? No more TAX!
Pete’s Turbo is 86? So next year !!???

Thought it was only resetting the odometer whilst moving, that caused issues with it?

That's my understanding, never done it after reading that many years ago. The cog is engaged when moving, not when stationary.
 
31st Aug 2029 for me, MOT would be due 11th Sep so 3 more to go after getting my latest one. Is it just a DVLA form?

Looks like it is more that the material used for the gear deteriorates with age. I took my gauge apart and barely looked at nor even touched the gear and it disintegrated into a million pieces. The mechanism is electronic with a solenoid used to trigger the reset, I'd imagine that when the gear is new there is no problem resetting it when moving.

I had a nightmare with my burgandy Turbo. Odometer gear fell apart and despite double checking often could never get the thing to be nearly accurate. a guy who repairs speedo's suggested a fault in the electronics... almost certainly a capacitor... all of which have a limited life. Similar experience with my 924 clock.... 2 duff capacitors.
An alternative car... my 2006 Cayman S with the oil seal sorted was a lot of car.... cheap as chips but only 2 seats
 
I have a 2021 GR Yaris (from new) and love it - but they are not for everyone - quite noisy (road noise not engine) and they have 6000 mile service intervals which are a little pricey for what actually gets done.
Driving it the length and breadth of the country reminds me very much of when my coupe was my everyday car (c2000 - think I got my cab around 2010) and it surprises people in the same way performance wise - they did not expect an old Porsche to be so capable and the same is true of a funny looking little toyota - not many people know what it is. I have driven both home to the South coast from the North of Scotland 20 years apart and enjoyed both drives equally.

I would like to restomod my coupe, keeping it everyday useable and then not sure which would get more use if it was 'box fresh' again, the coupe or the Yaris. Cruise control is handy in the average speed sections (but was a 944 option) and the gearing in the Yaris is probably more relevant to modern speed limit enforcement.

Had the Yaris and the cab on the skidpan at Thruxton - enjoyed the cab more - couldn't get the Yaris to slide neatly. On a rough broken b-road the Yaris is awesome* but then I have a set of KWs to go on the coupe which should also make it capable and it wasnt bad before - no danger of the coupe being back on the road any time soon though so Yaris will be staying for a while yet.

*After enjoying the Yaris at c 12.30am on a Lincolnshire B road I had to have a chat with some police officers who could have taken my licence away - they admitted they couldn't catch me, so not sure they had a reliable speed reading - I slowed to 40 for a 40 limit which was when they did pull me over, fortunately with nothing more than a stiff talking to and warnings not to be caught doing it again.

A GR Yaris is a car I've been considering, or a mk3 Focus RS/Audi RS3. Coincidentally to mainly use on local Lincolnshire B roads. I just wonder if the Yaris will be too similar to my 944.
