September Monthly Report

September Monthly Report on events.

This month we have reports from a couple of events by Chris Hak, and I report on the PCGB Open Day at Marque 21. We also had a well-attended September meeting, despite confusion over dates, it being our AGM, and worse, Geoff’s quiz! I am pleased to say that the AGM was short, if not record-breakingly so, and Geoff’s Movie Music quiz was in my opinion, one of his best ever – see, you should have come along after all!

Amongst the more usual business was a discussion over member preferences for a visit to Poole Accident Repair centre – only one vote between weekend or evening, with the preference being for an evening event – check the club website for details. We were also given an insight into an advanced driving talk Haydn is doing in October – which we will report on next month – and arrangements for our Christmas meal – this year due to our regular George Albert Venue being fully booked, we are returning to the venue for our first Christmas meal ten years ago, The Hunter’s Moon at Middlemarsh. However, the most significant announcement of the evening was that from Neil and Steph, who are looking forward to a new arrival – no, not another Porsche in the family, but this time a baby girl. Congratulations, and please ignore most of the ”helpful” suggestions from our membership!

Another event at Marque 21, it seems only a few weeks ago I was writing about the Saturday morning clinic. That is because it was only a few weeks ago! It is a reflection on Marque 21, their support of Porsche owners, and indeed, PCGB members especially, that not only do they hold these regular events, but they are well supported.

This Saturday morning was no exception, with excellent food laid on – just as well – I was supposed to bring a cake to celebrate Bomber’s (my own 944) 25th birthday, that corresponded to the day with their event. Um, I forgot! No matter, more than enough food to keep everyone fed at Marque 21.

As usual there was plenty of opportunity to not only catch up with other club members, but also look at some of Marque 21’s current projects (with a couple of members cars included in their workshop at the time), and talk to their staff – not forgetting their latest recruit, the German Shepherd Dog Jess: a mere puppy at one year old, still better behaved than some of our members!

The day ended not before our Alan Kennedy’s 911 received some impromptu attention – Alan has owned his car for more years than I have been a member, and it has recently undergone some quite extensive renovation work – I know Alan finished the rebuild the night before the MOT and then straight off for a tour of France, so not surprising there might be a couple of niggles to resolve – I felt sorry for Tim though, trying to diagnose the problem in front of a workshop full of “experts”, especially since Alan knows his own car inside out. Nevertheless, the problem was quickly diagnosed and fixed.
