24 Heures du Mans 2017

News from the 24 Heures du Mans 2017

A thrilling end to the 24 Heures du Mans. Who’d have thought that the Porsche #2, which spent an over an hour having its axle rebuilt would climb from 18 Laps down to take the trophy. With the Toyota's taking pole, it was looking like a tough race in LMP1 with course records being set throughout the weekend.

First one, then the other two Toyota's failed, ultimately leaving one on the track, but way down the field. Porsche #1 seemed to have the race sewn up, with a 12-lap lead, feeling comfortable and taking things cautiously, before a total loss of oil pressure early in a lap left the car stranded on the Mulsanne straight. The LMP2 car of Jackie Chan DC Racing was in the lead overall. It was all down to the #2 car, which was still working its way through the field. With just an hour to go Porsche #2 took the lead, and held it.

Porsche triumphant celebrating a hattrick of victories in the glorious sunshine. Could it be 20 victories in the 70 years of Porsche next year?
