Glencadam distillery is one of Scotland's oldest yet perhaps one of its least well known. Founded in 1825 a little over a year after the excise act legalised distilling, Glencadam sits on the outskirts of the ancient Catherdral City of Brechin, in Angus. Surrounded by the fields of golden barley that feed so many of Scotland's distilleries, Glencadam can be characterized by a delicate, grassy 10 year old malt which leads on to a wide range of older malts with their own distinct characters. There are also many special release single cask expressions.
Regular attendees of the Dundee Club Night at the Milton Inn may be familiar with the brand, as they stock more or less the whole collection of Glencadam right up to the rare 30+ year old examples.
Glencadam is unusual in not having a dedicated visitor centre so is not as well known as some - tours are rare and as such this is a distillery free from the veneer put on by some of its counterparts, this is whisky distilling in its truest form, using techniques honed over nearly two centuries.
For the price of £7 per person, you will receive two Glencadam 50ml miniatures in the post ahead of the event, both cornerstone malts for the brand, "The Rather Delicate" 10 year old, and its richer older sibling, "The Rather Dignified" 15 year old.
If you can refrain from drinking them beforehand, on the night R2 will host a Zoom Video Call where Glencadam's Global brand Ambassador, Iain Forteath, will lead us on a personal tasting session.
As well as being an opportunity to drink whisky at a car club event, this is your chance to get behind the scenes and develop a relationship with one of Scotland's oldest and most distinctive Single Malt Whiskies. It might just be the start of a long and enjoyable friendship with their expression of a treasured national pastime..
