Our annual season opening drive
Clear Away the Cobwebs 1st April 2018
We’ve been running our Clear Away the Cobwebs drive on the first Sunday in April since 2011, a great excuse to get the car out after a long winter, before the season gets into full swing.
This year we met at Beamish Hall. After breakfast sandwiches and cuppas, thirty seven Porsches set off in groups for Otterburn Castle, taking in the countryside around Derwent Reservoir, then the villages of Corbridge and Matfen before driving past Wallington Hall, into Rothbury and through Coquetdale. By the time we got to Otterburn we’d picked up two extra Porsches, who had happened upon us by chance and decided to tag along. After Sunday lunch, members made their way home, via the many great roads in the area, though some chose to stay on a while longer, enjoying the cosy atmosphere of the Castle.
We thought we’d hit lucky with the weather when the sun shone, especially considering it snowed quite heavily on every other day of the Easter weekend. A special mention must go to the drivers who got the roof down in the sunshine, and kept them down even when we had a brief snow shower. We’re tough up north!
