Hi all, I thought you may like to see this picture of the Zunsport grilles just fitted to me Boxster, very pleased with the look.

For those who are concerned about effects on warranty, I made a customer enquiry to a local dealership.

The response from a senior technician:-

Provided there is no compromise of the corrosion protection of the surrounding components and cooling is not restricted, the fitting of Intake grilles should not invalidate Warranty in my opinion.

The grilles can be easily removed if you are concerned or have to have the car collected.

And they will cause less restriction to cooling than leaves between condenser and radiator.

Ralph,

In the case of the 987 they fit in front of the slats but in the case of your 981S they are multi-piece and fit between the slats, take a look at the Zunsport site where you can do a search for the exact model of your car for example a front set for a 981S manual without parking sensors is ZPR47313 [link=http://www.zunsport.com/en/porsche-cayman-s-981-manual-without-sensors--front-grille-set-p455]http://www.zunsport.com/en/porsche-cayman-s-981-manual-without-sensors--front-grille-set-p455[/link]

I hope this helps.

Hi Ralph, yes, the Boxster 987 grills sit outside the front slats, as you can see from the pic you can still see the slats through the grills. As mentioned above, the grills very easy to fit and remove if necessary.

It's not clear from the Zunsport website. Are the grilles secured by clips or by cable ties?

Jeff

Clips, on these for the 987 Boxster, there are three clips on each side grill. They hold the grill in very firmly and can be adjusted in situ, just to make doubly sure.

The central grill is held on by two long self taping screws, these are black and the fittings are invisible once the grill is on, again very easy to fit.

Thanks for the info. I made grills for the side rad openings which fit behind the horizontal slats but need a grill to protect the centre radiator that was subsequently fitted.

I think I will take the PU off to see if there are obvious attachment points for a grill. I have looked at Zunsport several times but prefer the " inset" look if achievable.

I know what you mean about the 'inset' look. I made some myself originally from plastic mesh that I was able to thread through the slats, however I went to the Porsche regionally open day event at Porsche Cambridge over the weekend, where I saw a Cayman with leaky condenser rads on the ramp, caused by stones etc.

The mesh that I used had quiet big holes in it and after seeing the car on the ramp I decided the Zunsport ones with a much smaller mesh would do a better job.

As I said above, I am suitably pleased with the look, it's much better in the flesh than has come out on the photos.....

The choice, as they say is obviously yours though!

On my Cayman R it had 1 clip and a screw which are wholly inadequate. Needs several tie wraps and even then not a flush fit. Sorry to say, I was disappointed to be honest. The grill quality is great but engineering is lacking. [&o]

Thanks Andy. I recall speaking to someone with a 996 who made a similar comment about the fit of the grilles on his car.

A recurring topic on these pages, I know, but interesting to note that although Porsche sees fit to incorporate grilles on its GT cars, it's still reluctant to do so on the rest of the range.

Jeff

On my Gen1 I made some from black diamond mesh and edged them with rubber channel fixing them with tie wraps, and fitted them each autumn to protect from leaves etc, they would stay on until the councils had done the majority of their stone dumping on the roads in the spring. Then I saw some by Zunsport on a GTS at Althorp and liked the look of them. As I said above the 981 & GTS are multi-piece and fit between the slats but the 987 fit in front.

Hi all, it's my car that the grills are fitted to that started all this off and just to clear some points up I would like to add a few of my findings etc.

The grills are very well made and come coated not painted so chipping of the grills should be good.

They are a bit difficult to fit but they do fit and once fitted they fit very well.

You will need to protect the surrounding area as you fit these as like I said they are very tight to get in and you wouldn't want to scratch your bumper or plastic.

I put one extra small zip tie on the larger bottom grills each side, just to hold it where I wanted and to make sure it couldn't pop out if I hit some tin or a large pot hole.

Not only do I think it makes the front end look better as it darkens the front end and hides the silver rads, it also helps keep the rads in good condition as mine had quite a few dents and marks on them even after only 900 miles from new.

So as you can see I am happy with them and willing to offer help to you guys on fitting if needed as like I said, they can be tricky to get in and now that I have done them I could do the next set a lot quicker and much easier, so give yourself a few hours to fit and don't lose your rag with them.

16 confirmed to date but just home from the regional meeting and two more to add for 981 Caymans also another possible for a 996 C4 so hopefully not long before we can place our order

I sent an email to Tracy but had no response which is unusual and Cliff is on the Cayman Register so he should have got the email, it is on my regional page and if those who said they are interested which include some 996 and Cayman owners then the quantities are there but I have to wait for their details. Of course the limit is that we need to achieve a minimum 20 more would be better.

Of course I can put it onto the Boxster Register myself but I would prefer for her to do it.

I've placed a note onto the Boxster page so that the members there can then look into the offer here
