Used my new under body Karcher cleaning attachment for the first time, just to get off any possible salt that may have stuck recently. I've only driven when roads have been dry, but there had been white visibility on the roads, from previous salt treatments. Not sure how good a job I did, but made sure I spent a decent amount of time. The front was the trickiest, due to what looks like some under side flaps underneath making it more difficult to move.

As the care was relatively clean, a pH neutral snow foam, then rinse, then a wash with Maguiers wash and wax. Dried off with some towels, then two coats of Maguiers Liquid Wax, two dressing of their tyre gel too :)

Light isnt great, but It looks good and paint is smooth as :)

All ready for the open day now, unless it rains on Friday, as I have to take it out of the garage to have a side door fitted, before getting an electric garage door fitted (However, spotted a lot of chips today, and a mark in the passenger side sill that I think may need work before maybe getting the main door done)

Thank you! It took me a while :) I always find I can never get my pictures to look like my car actually looks, so am glad it comes across that way. Cheers

Re: What did you do with your 996 today? 2018/03/11 17:25:17 (permalink)
Well this weekend I delivered my C4S to Hartech in Bolton.

Had the car for sale last summer as after 3.5 years ownership I was looking to move on to something newer.

I had a sale agreed pending a Pre Purchase Inspection which the potential owner arranged at Brookspeed in Southampton who unfortunately found borescore on cylinder 6.

The sale understandably fell through although he did make an offer to take it as was with the borescore and looking back it was a fair offer but I was so crestfallen by the whole thing I couldn’t think straight. It was an absolute shock to find my otherwise immaculate and fastidiously maintained 996 had borescore. The car runs absolutely fine, lots of power, no strange noises and no smoke on start up and no obvious signs of it drinking oil.

So after some months of soul searching as to what to do I decided I am getting the engine rebuilt. It makes no financial sense as unless values take a serious step up I’ll never recoup the outlay but I couldn’t in good faith sell it as is. Won’t let it go for cheap but also just knowing it has a problem was eating away at me and ruining my enjoyment of the car.

So i’m keeping it, I have no real issue with Keeping it, it’s a great car and I was only thinking of selling as I wanted to try a newer more powerful 911 so giving the car a full engine rebuild, not just the damaged cylinder gives me the option to upgrade which should help hold my interest in the car for the future.

Assuming the strip down and inspection goes well I’m Looking at the 3.9 litre upgrade. Turning what was a seriously disappointing situation into an opportunity to upgrade and improve a fantastic car.

It is going to be a long (and expensive) couple of months I’m without the car but I am very excited now as to what it’s going to be Like when I collect it.

Blanked off the resonator in the airbox. Hoping for a bit more induction noise.

German and British engineering at its best
Went to Dunsfold to see Vickers VC10 ex-East African Airlines converted to RAF tanker. Start-up and taxi, plus on-board view.  After Concorde retired, this effectively was the fastest transatlantic commercial airliner in service - a record still held today.

Technically, I didn't do anything with it directly, however, I did just book into the Bicester Sunday Scramble on 22nd April :)
See you there, if you're going

Just had my wheels refurbished & colour changed by Wheel Genie in Huntingdon. I love the darker centres offset by the Smokey chrome rim.

Hi all,
I also had my wheels refurbished this year at Lepsons in Kent.
I stuck with the original colour.
I have to say that they did a marvellous job.

They are lovely looking wheels, but a complete pain to keep protected and clean. Not sure I would use them for Winter use.

Well bit the bullet and had a go at replacing split oil filler tube On my 2000 C4. All parts - tube, seals and bolts all around £50 from OPC. Previous glued before and lasted about 12months but this time decided to tackle head on.

Read up and studied lots of YouTube howtos before hand.... well took about 3 hours in total with airbox, belt and alternator having to come out and then the tricky 2x tube bolts - a stubby 10mm spanner came in very handy.

Replacement tube looked to slightly thicker and hopefully will last. Satisfied with result.

I took mine to CG for a geometry check. Adjusted toe out and lowered pressures and it’s a vast improvement. Going back to have new bushes fitted and some rear end adjustments to make the car more neutral. Can’t praise Chris and his team highly enough.

Took the car to the PCGB Breakfast event. Saw a couple of 996 and 986.  Had a nice time.

Took it out of the garage for a spin, having been away for 3 weeks and it being sat for a week or two before, but, it didnt start! :(

Luckily, it was only a battery replacement needed, despite being on a ctek trickle charger almost since i got it in April. New battery in, and took it to blow some cobwebs away. Thankfully I tried it before Sunday, else Id have missed the Scramble

Do you recommend the Meguiers? I've never used their stuff but have heard good reports. I've used the Demon snow foam which is a bit "meh" but on a relatively clean car does the job. Has anyone used the Dodo Juice products at all?

Changed the oil pressure sender after getting those signals everyone talks about. Then gave her a nice clean, got the top down and went for a lovely drive...loving the car...

Yes, the stuff is good, but, Ive not had my car really 'dirty' to see what the reults would be like, and it is currently Maguiers Liquid waxed too. That stuff is so easy to use. Personally, Im no expert, there may be better stuff, but Im pleased with the results its given me

Not tried ay dodo, despite recently reading about it here recently
