Hi all

After a few enquiries with other specialists I had my plastic window replaced today by Gary Hubbard in Loughborough (Hubbard Upholstery). He knows his stuff and it was £225 well spent. He told me that the previous window (at least ten years old and before my ownership) had not been done to Porsche spec but he did a good job with the new one. Recommended.

I’m surprised that insurers paid.  Aged plastic windows become brittle with age and exposure to UV light.  It isn’t accidental breakage, it’s age related wear and tear.  Think yourself lucky.

I had my 986 Boxster done by BAS in Cwmbran years ago. It was much better than the original roof with a heated glass rear window. I recommend them.

The previous owner of my 986 used this firm to replace the roof. I called recently to see if I could have the plastic screen replaced as it’s gone cloudy but they said this isn’t something they did.

roof replacement was £590 in 2011.

If you are in the East Midlands check out Hubbard Upholstery in Loughborough. Gary Hubbard does loads of Boxsters - he has one himself - and will replace plastic windows or fit a complete roof.

I have a lot of wooden windows in my house that need to be reanimated and somehow insulated before winter. Tell me how to find window specialists in Essex. They say that windows can be restored well there without changing new ones. We want to do everything at an affordable cost for us, since we cannot buy new wooden windows, and we do not want plastic ones.

I had my 986 Boxster roof replaced by BAS in Cwmbran earlier this month. Excellent company and people to deal with. They sent fabric samples through the post so I could be sure it was the correct shade of blue. Quite a long lead time but definitely worth the wait (as I wanted to upgrade the plastic window for heated glass).
