Advice on Winter/Summer tyre swap

Hi all,

I’ve got a 991.1 base model which I bought from new in 2014. I have a set of N rated winter tyres which I swap November and March although I didn’t do this for 2 years during COVID. My OPC has now increased the cost of doing the swap by a factor of 4 which is a hefty increase.

I’m looking at alternative options and considering local tyre fitters. Is this a good idea and should I be aware of any limitations or risks in using a local tyre fitter rather than my OPC?

Such an easy job to do yourself.
If you need a hand let me know or any advice just let me know.

Are you swapping your tyres or wheels? if the former, I'd try and get hold of a second hand set of alloys and have your tyres mounted on them and leave them in the garage if you have one. You'll probably save money in the long term.

Thanks for the replies. However I know my limitations and prefer to outsource anything remotely mechanical. I’m looking to change the car later this year and might be tempted by the 992.2 when it‘s available. Consequently it’s not worth getting a set of wheels (I’ve only got tyres) although I may do this for the next car.

Changing tyres between wheels has risk if done without care. Have a look on blackcircles.com for their "premier" fitters and go and talk to one near you. I found a guy who owns his own tyre fitting business and cares about his reputation. Whenever I go to him with my 911 he always does the job himself. I've given him all my other tyre business too to keep him caring about my 911.
