Macan Turbo Newbie Advice please

Hi all,

I'm hoping to pick some brains and get some advice before my wife and I jump into the world of Porsche ownership.

We recently moved to the highlands of Scotland and given the snow (and poor experiences with the Mercedes main dealer) have decided it's time to swap my wife's e-Class Mercedes for something with higher ground clearance and 4WD: first choice is the Macan Turbo.
We've decided on the Turbo as the model we want as we don't do a lot of miles and it has the closest performance to my Audi S8+! Swapping that one is not an option for either of us[:D]

I've done my homework on the major common faults but I would like any advice from owners of what else to look for before I part with my pennies. We'd like to spend around 35K on it.

We've found a 2015 model for about 7K less than that: it has 93K miles on the clock and a full Porsche Main Dealer Service History. It was MOTed last month and has no advisories listed. It is the exact spec that we want but am I buying myself more than £7k worth of problems with the high mileage? Low residual value is not really an issue as we expect the car to outlast the pair of us.

If we decide to go for it, is there any day one preventative maintenance that we can do?

Also, if anyone knows a good Porsche specialist in the Inverness (or north of) area that would be great. Our nearest Main Dealer is a 5 hour drive away in Aberdeen.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know where you've seen that car but, personally, I'd suggest buying through a Porsche Centre and perhaps pay a little more. You can get lower mileage examples and they come with the 2 year warranty. It's worth travelling the distance to get the exact car spec you want and then, if the timing is right, it could be up to 2 years before the next service as well. If the Inverness Centre open in the meantime then you could get it serviced there. It's also worth think about the GTS as well as the Turbo. See here for current examples of both: https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/search?model=macan&category=macan-gts&category=macan-turbo&order=price_asc

Speaking with Peter Vardy Aberdeen (who are also in Perth) recently I got the impression that their Inverness prospect was rather dubious right now

Rico ...

Perth may be a similar trip for you ? ... if you need any `support` in the Aberdeen area then do drop me a note / private message on here

Also ... if you trawl back in the R2 Scotland North area, there is a list of Porsche support services / contacts that may be of use

EDIT ... nothing really suitable up with you it appears

Macanforums.co.uk is an absolute mine of information and several contributors are your side of the Border. One thing that leaps out at me is the transfer box, at 92k miles you'd expect it's either fine or has been replaced, however, the extended guarantee expires after 7 years so more info on that is essential! Stuart's advice is solid, a Porsche warranty is THE most desirable option you can buy.
