Dear all,

This is a place to collate the collective knowledge of Region 2, for Porsche specialists who can be trusted to service, repair, paint, inspect, etc..

Please only make positive recommendations - we don't want to cause an argument between the club and a business over any perceived unfair critical posts!

As time goes on, we may collate the recommendations on here into a resource that will appear on the club website or in the magazine.

Thanks all for your contributions!

I have used APDC in Kirriemuir, a German car specialist, for service and repair work.

They have a laser wheel alignment rig and were able to reset the suspension geometry on my 987 Cayman back to factory settings.
They have also fitted new tyres for me, along with new plugs, coils, and a VarioCam Plus Solenoid.

I have dealt with Andy who is very reasonable, knowledgeable, and honest. He makes recommendations as if it was his own vehicle.
There are often interesting cars in there, Audi Quattro's, Jaguar VJS V12, Cayenne, RS2 etc..

Just this morning we have been in touch with a company based in central Scotland called Classic Spares Engineering, run by Scott Mitchell.
www.classicsparesengineering.co.uk

"Classic Spares and Engineering Ltd are a Scottish based company Committed to providing new, remanufactured and reconditioned gauges for classic Cars from 1940s to early 1990s."

Having seem some photographs of the work they do, they can get gauges back to as good as or better than new, see the 356 gauges below.

If you contact Scott as Classic Spares Engineering, he can assist with a 10% discount for club members.

Hi Stu,

OPC Perth will be able to help I'm sure.

On the independent side, Falkland Performance in Glenrothes are very good. I used them a lot on my 944, doing cambelts swaps, water pump, etc..
I'd trust them with that kind of work.

There's also our local place called APDC in Kirriemuir, they're a German car specialist and did some good work on my 987 Cayman.
Andy is the chap to speak to at APDC.

Cheers,
George

George Morrison in Rutherglen did them on my 2006 Cayman S a couple of months ago.
Good knowledgeable independent specialist.

I have used aw autotech and also reidline in kintore for factory setting alignments.

Reidline have the hunter kit, aw (at the time) did not but did have equivalent kit and could give the same type of print outs.

No complaints from either, just used reidline as they are very close to me.

Also used Steve @ Grampian auto service (GAS) in dyce to do my suspension overhaul and brake disc / pad / brake line replacement. I then took the car to reidline for the final geo set up.

Hi George / Alastair
Thanks for your replies the reason for my post is that how far do Porsche owners go at OPC servicing and other works etc
Just to have the stamp in the book . over the years I have serviced the usual oils , filters, plugs etc
Myself as I feel when I sell the cars you get the same price as Alot goes with market value especially when you are dealing with older
Cars well out of the manufactures warrenty
I bought another Cayman last year not done much milage in the year has not given me any issues
Now due a service Oil and filter ,. Brake fluid. Plugs and coils which I can do myself
But have noticed a small o/s front coolant drip leak have traced to the top pipe at the Alu crossover pipe
When I used the Porsche no leak only when cold the o ring has contracted slightly
As we all know if I get this all done as the kit it's the subframe and geometry
So this is why I have had quotes from Perth Porsche in the new year as don't know of any garage
In Dundee that I think could carry out this type of job if you get what I mean except Porsche
As they deal with this all the time and have the kits on site and include new coolant. Thanks. Stu

Hi
Contacted a local garage in Dundee today about changing the coolant hose pipes and what would be involved if the crossovers
Have to be changed the reason being I bought the Porsche last year and still have a gold RAC warranty
And they are RAC approved their reply was that they are not sure of what was involved but would have a look
If I wanted as now I was planning to go to Perth Porsche next month but now closed due to the new lockdown
Even if I buy the 1 hose pipe involved and get it done but I'll keep looking in Dundee there maybe a garage that can
Take on the full front coolant pipes and bleed the system etc as for just to get it done
Cheers

Hi Stu,

Sorry I meant to reply sooner!

I can totally understand your concern about using anyone other than a Porsche main dealer or a Porsche specialist to do that coolant crossover pipe for you. After all its easy to get something wrong and it can be costly if it does.

I also appreciate you have got an RAC warranty on the car and that you quite rightly want to use that to cover the repair.

Hopefully you manage to find somewhere who are RAC approved, but are also trustworthy.

I know of a few owners who have tackled that job themselves, if you are handy with the spanners and can find a guide somewhere, there's no reason why you can't make a really good job of it yourself. You of course have more motivation to do it properly than any garage!

Unfortunately I'm in a different county area, up in Kirriemuir, else I'd offer to help you do the job.

Please do let us know how you get on, especially if you find somewhere trustworthy!

Cheers,
George

Hi George
I will see what next month brings and if Perth Porsche will open or take the Porsche to the RAC approved
Garage in Dundee Kevin Pirie & son I had the Mot done there they have a good reputation and that was the garage I mentioned to you
Have no direct experience with this issue but would have a look and take it from there if I had the space and time I would do it myself
If it was just the hose pipe it's only a clip insert but then it has loss of coolant and to be air bled again
Keep you posted
Stu
