A little about my new Porsche 968 Sport project purchased this week...

The car was registered and supplied brand new by JCT600 Porsche Official Centre North East (Porsche Newcastle) in January 1995 with registration M1 PTM. In August 1998 this private plate was removed, and the car returned to registration M737UEF.

The car was then sold to its second owner in January 1999.
The car was then sold to its third owner in May 2000.

The car was then sold to its fourth owner in September 2001, then in August 2002 registration plate ASW 227 (which remains on the car) was added. At some point the car was taken off the road with engine failure. (Owned for 19 years and two months).

The clue here is there is no digital MOT history to the car. DVLA Records went digital in April 2005 so looks like the failure was between August 2002 and April 2005.

The car was then sold to its fifth owner Paul Holmes in Ilkeston in November 2020. (Owned for 1 year and seven months).

I then purchased the car in June 2022 with just 64k miles and a freshly rebuilt zero miles engine built by John Holland at Unit 11 in Warrington.

We'll now complete and restore the car until its back on the road hopefully in a few months time.

As a bonus the car came with LOTS of spares and new parts and even a very faded PCGB sticker!

Looks great - can’t wait to see the progress updates.

Is the Bard Find going to be called Hamlet or Romeo?

Lovely to see another 968 being rescued.

Strongly suggest (if you haven't already done so) that you invest £10 to join https://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3604 then get friendly with member Jakerade, OK his passion is the 968CS, he's totally rebuilt a few of those and has documented many jobs with details and photos. you'll also find the forum on 968uk is far more active than the 968 register on here (I was a 968 owner for 21 years!) and is a friendly place with many knowledgeable people with all versions of the 968 covered - in fact the forum owner is in the middle of fettling his 968 Sport!

Look forward to seeing updates (with photos) as the rescue progresses.

Persevere, it's well worthwhile - and as your 968 ownership continues you will realise the benefits time and again!!

Very nice-and John Holland knows his stuff so a very useful fact & very local too for further help ,if needed.

Thanks chaps. It's now easier, people were attempting to join without contacting me first which meant it just went into a 'pit of oblivion' with all the robots and scammers trying to get access.

Now just click on the joining the Forum link on the website to send me a message.

Is your intention to get it as close as possible to original, as was when new (NLA's substituted of course)? Or to add in a few improvements or updates along the way?

The plan with the car is to first get it running, then get a clean MOT on it. It will evolve from there really. I'll likely put Recaro Pole Position seats in it and I have new red seat belts already, so a OEM+ type build... sort of a Club Sport build, but not a Club Sport clone if that makes sense! :ROFLMAO:

Looks a good project, even though I don't have my GR coupe anymore it's still probably my favourite colour for a 968.

Thanks, yeah looking forward to seeing it back on the road, i've actually never driven a 968! [:-]

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to hearing more later, as and when maybe.

Off topic; you have a 914 race car, yes? Loved them - both the rally and Le Mans versions

Car returned from Unit 11 a couple of weeks ago in full running order and sounds fantastic! Next jobs are cleaning and re-fitting the interior, then a full refresh underneath. Brake calipers are off the car and heading for a full refurb...

Just purchased a 968cs only 37k miles from new with all the records etc.any advice ????????

Well done on such a low mileage.

Check on when the belts were last done is probaby the first thing, should be every 48k miles or every 4 years. Have a good look underneath for corrosion, including brake and fuel pipes towards the rear where they go over the torsion beam.

An MOT will bring things to light like perished bushes etc.

Generally very well built, engines are robust, other age related stuff will possibly crop up if your spending time with it and driving it.

..................

Oh and caliper plate lift, if the brakes are binding or innefficient it could be that the stainless steel wear plates in the calipers have been lifted by corrosion of the aluminium underneath and trap the pads.
