Time to say goodbye to my fabulous GT4

After a fabulous year of adventures with my GT4 the time has come to let it go as I have been lucky enough to secure a GT3 allocation.

I can honestly say that the GT4 has been the most enjoyable and exciting car that I have owned to date, I already regret selling it, but needs must.

So if you are thinking of getting one my advice is just do it, but be careful if it’s cold / wet and those Dunlop Sport Max (Cup 2 equivalent) tyres are cold!

Looking forward to seeing your GT3 Martin - fingers crossed it's here in time for Oulton Park on April 26th [:D]

Thanks Dave, I hope so too otherwise I’ll have to bring Angela’s Macan...

Looking forward to catching up with you soon.

That was a short - albeit enjoyable - Cayman tenure Martin, but well done on securing a GT3 slot. With its engine in the “wrong” place, you’ll have to be even more careful with the GT3 running on Cup 2 tyres! And watch out too for those Caymans hounding you on track. [;)]

Hope the delivery process goes smoothly for you.

Jeff

I think he's just miffed that he didn't spec LED headlights so felt compelled to change :ROFLMAO:

Clocked a new, black 992 GT3 Clubsport PDK at the OPC yesterday [:)]

So unassuming, all it needed was the yellow calipers in black to complete the Darth Vader look !

The car had, what I assume is factory PPF on the leading edge of the roof ... not a good finish for my taste

Thanks Jeff, the GT4 was so good that I might well have another mid engined Porsche at some point in the future.

😂 If I was ordering a GT4 again Dave, I would definitely spec the LED headlights and Bose stereo! They were the only things that I would have changed, the standard radio sounded rubbish in my opinion.

I was also told that I should have specced the dual zone climate control but for what it’s worth, I thought that the standard AC was fine.

Headlights, yes. Dual Zone climate, yes. Bose, no.

Get an exhaust instead like I did [8D]

Maybe you’ll take a leaf out of Ralph’s book then Martin as here’s moving back to a 718 GT4 from his GT3. Whatever, I’m sure that you’ll enjoy your GT3 ownership and you’re always welcome to pop back here for a chat as things always seem to be rather quiet on the GT3 forum; a GT3-GT4 comparison would be of interest to us on here.

Dave, it just shows how different we all are, I thought the car itself sounded fine as it was, although I know that some people don’t like the sound of the 718 compared to the 981. I genuinely thought that the standard AC was fine too, I just didn’t like the radio.

[/quote] I quite agree, Jeff, it would be really good to get the comparison. The chance of a GT3 sounds too good to be true but I would always wonder about what I was losing from the Cayman.

I know Dave, I have enjoyed the friendly banter and useful insight to GT4 / Cayman ownership on this section of the forum. It’s one of the better aspects of club membership, especially during lockdown.

I look forward to meeting up with you and all the other R5 yellow GT4 owners with your fancy headlights later this morning, I’ll make sure that I park my Golf round the corner... 😉😂

Good to see you today mate, and yes this section of the PCGB world has been a great place to inhabit!

You will be missed by this forum, the Cayman register and the club when you leave PCGB for the reasons that you explained and which I totally understand.

I admire your point of principle on this and it is a sad indictment of the Board‘s approach to how they want to take our club forward. The club is not and never will be about an ivory tower in the South of England, it’s about like minded people getting together and sharing our interest, views and stories about the marque that we all love.

The cars and the club, just bring us together, it’s ultimately about the people who make friends and have fun. Our small gathering on Sunday morning over breakfast proves the point.

P.S. It‘s a good job that you managed to get those smart new lightweight bucket seats, they will offset all the weight of those fancy headlights and that heavy dual zone climate control of yours... 😉😂

:ROFLMAO:

Cheers for the kind words, and I'll be around for a couple of months yet before I slip away quietly from the Club...

Dave,

I take it from Martin’s comment and your response that you’ve decided to leave the Club as a result of the Board’s decision to pursue the move to Bicester, and I concur with Martin’s observation that - among other things - your presence on this forum will be missed greatly and hope that you’ll consider remaining as a Guest to give us the benefit of your valued input on all things Cayman.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Yep, your analysis is correct. My membership expires in mid-May and I won't be renewing it in light of recent decisions/events. I wasn't planning on sticking around so as to have a clean break as it were, but I'll keep my account active (if I can) so if someone wants to get in touch they can send me a message [:)]

Thanks for the kind words, I've enjoyed being part of the Cayman group here on PCGB!

-Dave

David,

I also concur with Jeff's comments and understand your reasoning to take a break from the Club.

Although we come from different motoring backgrounds, and have not always been on the same page regarding my emphasis on speed, handling dynamics, and engine acoustics, I have always respected your comments and valued your opinions on Cayman topics.

It was also good to meet you personally, albeit very briefly at Oulton Park last October. Your GT4 modifications are well thought out and make a superb car even better. It also sounds really good on the track.

Brian
