Thanks.  I’m trying to work out what that could be.  Reversing camera input ?  Seems unlikely.

Re the Z3, its more like £1250 from Teile.  A top of the line Pioneer from Halford is £900.  I’d happily pay £350 extra for OEM look.

Further feedback on the USB and Phone USB slots as follows:
Both my wife and I have iPhones. Mine is set up to use Siri and Apple CarPlay in another vehicle. Hers isn’t set up for Siri, but she uses the 996 a lot and wants to play music from her phone. If her phone is plugged into the phone slot, unless she activates Siri on it she can’t get any further. And so she has to switch the lead over to the USB slot to play her music. On my phone I can use either slot for music but obviously need to use the phone slot for CarPlay as well as music. So my point is that if you plan to keep the supplied USB/ Aux/Phone box hidden, and just run a USB extension lead, you will need to decide which of the two USB style slots to use, depending on whether you use Siri, and whether anyone else who uses the car wants the same set up. If the box is exposed then you can obviously change the slot to which the phone connects whenever you like and so accommodate both parties. Sorry if this sounds complicated, it’s just my wife hates Siri and she uses the car more than me! If you are the sole user then it could make a lot of sense to run just one loose cable as you suggest, and keep the box hidden.

Thanks - I was actually planning to install a faceplate with two USB’s and a 3.5mm in the centre cubby and run three cable to it.  So I keep all the functionality

If anyone else wants to just play music.
Just fit a Bluetooth receiver behind the head unit.
You'll find the aux input and a 12v supply from the telephone input there.
I will cost you all of £2.50-£5

Run android auto or apple car play on your phone which is probably with you anyway and keep you car looking as it should.
Save the money to fix your Porsche perishables.

I think “looking as it should” includes installing all of the latest Porsche Classic upgrades for the model.  So 🤷‍♂️

That’s great Matt thanks. In my C4S there is a CD magazine fitted below the PCM. Will this shelf replace it does anyone know?

Yes. I had a CD magazine below my unit and replaced it with this type of cubby hole. I fitted the box with the USB connections into it. if you look at my photos above you can see that I cut a hole in the back to allow the USB box some room to move whilst I was reinserting the new unit in the double din slot as the loom is quite short. All I needed was a Stanley knife.  The USB box can then be fixed using the supplied Velcro fittings.

As to removing the old unit, I found a video on YouTube which showed the key steps.. Basically you lever off the horseshoe shaped fitting with all the switches on it. This then gave access, at least for my old unit, to the four fixings, that is two each side, which needed to be turnedthrough approx 90 degrees by an Allen key before the old unit could be pulled out. The video is posted by Enfig and shows a beige/ light grey dash on a 996. (If I recall there is a different Enfig video which shows a Boxster which was longer but less helpful.)
link is https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D8AU_di9BzIQ&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjAvZ-utrTpAhX3aRUIHWHsBoMQtwIwAHoECAcQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0dKnBS4E0L_czdgwJPQcg4
It wasn’t super obvious as to how the new unit is bolted in as it doesn’t come with equivalent fixings.

That’s really helpful Castorman, many thanks. Did a DAB antenna come with the package and where did you fit one in the car. Do you manage to get digital radio ok.
