Oil level fell below minimum level

991.2 C2 2017, current mileage 12.5k, first service Sept 2019 at around 10k. I regularly check the oil level graphic and have noticed that the level has been falling gradually however today the level fell below the minimum mark and I had to top up by a full litre. I can’t see any signs of an oil leak under the car or on my driveway. Clearly I don’t do a high annual mileage but when I’m out for a run I usually do runs of between 60 to 160 miles with some town driving in between.
Has anyone had such high oil usage in such a short period and low mileage and if so were you able to identify the problem and fix it or is this usage typical of a 911. It’s my first 911.

I’ve only had it once in 13 porsche and that was bore scoring in a 987S
certainly not usual I’d say

If the vehicle is used for repeated short trips and consumes a normal amount of oil, oil measurement may not show any noticeable drop in level for long periods. This is because it gradually becomes diluted with fuel and moisture and the level appears to not change appreciably.

However, after driving at high speed or on long journeys, these diluting ingredients evaporate and may then make oil consumption seem to be excessive when it's not. Porsche say oil consumption of 1 litre per 1,000K (600 miles) is quite normal, although in practice this is usually much less in water cooled 911 engines.

It's most unlikely you have a damaged engine, but you could check for unusually sooty/oily exhaust tips on either side. Suggest you just top up and keep a weather eye on the level for a time. If you're worried mention to your PC as they may decide to do further checks, (assuming you have extended warranty).
Regards,

Clive
