New to Boxster ownership - bought a manual 2.7 last month. Have been toying with the idea since purchase of having the Porsche Sports Exhaust retrofitted. Bit the bullet and had it fitted today - WOW so impressed already, transforms the car. Early days but glad I went for it.

I'm really toying with doing this to my 981 2.7 manual. Sounds like you both fully recommend it!?
Is it noticeably louder when turned on over the stock? Are there any other characteristics that you like?
I went into my local OPC last week and they pretty much talked me out of it saying i wont really notice any difference over stock....? Odd move i thought, talking someone out of spending a couple of grand on a part!?
Would really appreciate your feedback.

Can't comment too much yet as I have only driven it back from the OPC last night.
Initial impressions are that it is quite a bit louder, bit deeper at lower revs and screams at higher revs with pop bangs and gurgles on the overrun.
As soon as I drove out of the dealership I was instantly reassured I had made the right choice.

Had one fitted to my 981CS last Mar. Noticeable difference. As the revs increase it just gets better and sounds glorious (particularly on twisty mountains passes 
). However, the overrun pops and bangs can be a bit wearing, OTT after a while so not for everyone. Worth trying a drive with one fitted.

I had one fitted to my Cayman a few months after buying the car (new). On tickover there is no change in noise level or frequency but it is louder at higher revs and has noticeable plops and bangs on the overrun, especially in 'sport' mode.
The only negative for me and maybe more noticeable in a Cayman is the tedious drone at approx 2000rpm compared with the standard exhaust. On reflection I'm now glad I had it fitted.

1) when its not turned on, does it sound exactly the standard unit?
2) how much did it cost you? the local OPC wants £2200 but an 911design.co.uk wants £1500 +fitting which seems more reasonable.

The PSE in 'quiet' mode with the button off sounds slightly louder than standard - a bit throatier and a some slight droning noise - but not majorly different
The PSE in 'loud' mode is great - I particularly enjoy driving up our narrow high-street with it on and hearing the windows rattle in the houses ;-)
But on long journeys I turn it off as the noise and droning gets a bit wearing after a while.
The switchable behaviour of the PSE is ideal for me therefore - use it on country B-road drives a lot - roof down it's great - off on longer motorway trips.
Not sure what your OPC is talking about saying no difference - there definitely is - particularly at higher revs.
Ref design911 costs - sounds fair but add in the installation costs - and exhaust tips (which may or may not be in the design911 price) and it's going to be pretty close to OPC price when installed - OPC did mine as car under warranty and was around price you've been quoted. Well worth it IMHO.
I know some folks with carnewal who love them - but don't think they're switchable and they are using them in their second or third cars - not on longer motorway journeys.
Price sounds about right. i would say ur fitting cost after buying from 911Design will bring ya near OPC price. My OPC spent about 6 hours fitting it. Not just the exhaust itself needs done but wiring , fitting a new button console, coding and ecu software update. Also check the part from 911Design includes the new button console too

Really appreciate all of your feedback and think I'm pretty much sold on having it fitted. Just need to save up my pennies i think! Having spoken again to the local OPC they have done a bit better on the price and its now £2000 inc vat so whilst its still a lot, I'm very tempted!!!

I don't think i know what that is? Is it permanent or something that could easily be put back to stock after having been done?

I believe that like the Carnewal offering, Revolution modify your existing exhaust, so it's non-switchable.

After some research and feedback form local R3 members I took the plunge and got a GT sport exhaust from Gert at Carnewal a few years back. An exchange system and great service from Gert at around 500 Euro, exhaust fitted by local Porsche specialist.
The Carnewal GT is not switchable but a great improvement in standard, throaty at tickover and a glorious howl as the revs rise.
We have been to the Alps in 2107; the Carnewal is not droney on the motorway and just fabulous through mountain passes and tunnels.
Kept the original X-type tips until a few months ago when I fancied a change to 981 twin round pipes (liked the 981 look).
The X tips are actually raspier at the top of the rev range, and 981 are deeper and throatier at the top, personal choice as to which you prefer.
Would I have the PSE if £2000 was burning a hole in my pocket, most probably yes, but could not justify the expenditure on a 987.1 !!

I'm in the process of buying a 987.2 S with PDK. It has the Chrono Sports Plus package so has the Sport and Sport Plus buttons on the console.
I've been thinking about adding the aftermarket PSE using a Porsche dealership. My question is, as the car has Sports Plus mode, will adding PSE increase the exhaust noise even louder?
Is it worth getting it done if Sports Plus present?
