Important Regional Information - Change of Monthly meeting venue.

Important Regional Information - Change of Monthly meeting venue.

Cars Coffee & Cake at Sally's Warwick Bridge
Due to the uncertainty of the North Lakes Hotel & Spa maintaining the current cost of room hire I have been researching alternative locations.
Sally and mark Longstaff at Sally's have kindly offered to host our meetings free of charge assuming members will be purchasing teas and coffees etc.
This appears to be a suitable alternative as we have dedicated car parking and Sally and Mark are enthusiastic Club Members, I am aware that this may add some extra distance for some Members but this move will ensure continuity for meetings. I hope this meets with majority approval.

Monthly meetings will still take place on the first Tuesday of the Month at 19:30hrs we will have the venue exclusively to Club member's with dedicated parking.

good stuff Mike... lakes was a nice place but the car park put me off bringing mine... set up at sallys has worked well in the past and gives chance to chat around the cars when the weather improves.

the other thing I'd say is maybe an alternate with an early weekend morning cars and coffee style meeting in the summer might suit more members...I know I struggle getting time to attend the evening ones.

Mike, lets hope all these people FULLY supporting R22 and the new venue turn up at the February meeting to give their valued input and support for the Calendar of events you will have in place for this coming year. It's no good you organising 3 or 4 run outs on weekends if nobody participates or offers encouragement!

Looking forward to seeing a Full calendar of drive outs and events on the 4th February.

Well done Mike on getting a new venue without spending the meagre allowance, I am more than happy to continue attending your meetings and I'm sure Kevin will join me when possible. I have a Motorsport Board Meeting on Thursday at Cornbury House, so hopefully I will be able to provide some dates and information for your next meeting.

Firstly I am unsure why anyone would feel Sally's would be any less suitable than any of the other varied meeting point locations or establishments that we currently use nationwide. Especially as R20 (& our current Chair) actively endorse using one rather successfully and have done so for many years.

The iconic Ace Café may have attracted many visitors over the years, but lets face it, the only similarity between Sally’s and the Ace is the word Café, perhaps tearoom or restaurant gives a completely different impression of Sally’s and as they’ve agreed to open up especially after hours exclusively to R22 at such a pivotal time for this fairly new Region, I feel their support should be applauded.

For those who haven’t yet had the pleasure or sampled the Sally’s experience, you may be forgiven for incorrectly assuming that Sally’s five star establishment could be likened to that of the Ace, so I can understand some of the initial concerns. In fact if we were to be brutally honest, the Ace (take away its heritage) is actually little better than a greasy spoon that offers access to an easy meeting point. I am pretty sure visitors don’t flock there to sample their culinary delights. While the Ace offers diners delights such as burgers and sticky toffee pudding, Sally’s in comparison offers the likes of Cranberry & Walnut scones, barista coffees and cream teas, alongside many other exquisite lovingly hand made offerings and before anyone complains, yes I have been to both and this is my own personal opinion and based solely from my own experiences.

Whilst I agree this club is about the people and the camaraderie, we must not forget it's the cars and our love of the brand that initially brings us together, realistically the magic only starts to happen when members find a place where they can enjoy spending quality time together at a place that affords them the chance to bond, form friendships and essentially somewhere they can proudly call their own.

Perhaps if our club's goal remains, allegedly, to be the heart of Porsche ownership in the UK, to continue to do so, occasionally, it may be necessary to rethink changes in policy if and when they are shown to have a hugely negative impact.

However, this new policy could quickly force some regions to also have to rethink their strategies and due to the lack of, or the mismanagement of their funds, will inevitably mean some look at returning back into smaller venues or dingy back rooms of pubs & clubs and meeting rooms that are not fit for purpose, this unfortunately will only encourage members to vote with their feet. Why, so we save an extra couple of quid? Are times suddenly that hard, and if so why? One has to ask what has changed and gone wrong so quickly?

When did the one size doesn’t fit all philosophy change and why? You do have to ask which path are we currently being led down, the garden one? Like Peter, a lot of us are concerned about what will be the next cost cutting exercise that is forced upon us. Surely to continue to be successful each and every Region needs to be assessed independently, only then can the appropriate actions taken.

Any new meeting venues should be given a great deal of consideration, obviously location and what benefits they bring to the members remain paramount. Perhaps if we are to sustain the growth we have experienced over recent years we must all ensure every member at the very least enjoys a similar experience nationally rather than unwisely only taking monetary cost as the only value we apparently now take into consideration.

Hi Mike
Great Zoom meeting last night & thanks from me to Chris for his presentation.
It allowed us all to meander around the topic in the usual friendly northern style with even refurbishment of Volkswagens involved.( don't know how you cope spraying outdoors up there George & Caitlin!-but great to see you.)
The benefit of this style Zoom is clearly obvious which is diminished by normal physical regional meetings where we rarely see other regional members other than close neighbours.
Maybe a thought to consider when things get back to normal.
Thanks again ,Mike.
Colin.
