condensation issues

Hi all
Need some advice. Just purchased a 996 02 convertible and the condensation on the glass in the evenings and mornings is quite considerable.Could anyone point me in the right direction to pin point the reason for this or how I can prevent this from happening
Thanks in advance

Looks like you have a leak somewhere. Have you checked the carpets etc and looked where water may be seeping in.

Check the seals and ensure that they are well lubrcated with a silicon type grease.

Also check that the soft top drains holes are clear - they block up very easily.

Have a look on the Porsche PET for details of where the drains are. I am sure there will be someone online soon who will point you in the right direction to find that.

Also leave the air conditioning permanently in auto. So even when not using for cooling it will remove moisture from the car.

Behind the rear speakers (remove them) you'll find a hopper that collects water from the drainholes under the lid that lifts to receive the hood. The drains in them to the underside get blocked there by leaking into the footwells and dampening the carpet, could be the problem.

thanks joneslight I will give it a go this weekend. Will also check condition of carpet

Thanks Andy, I guess a busy weekend is ahead unblocking the drains. It's quite fortunate I'm a plumber ??

update on condensation problem. decided to have a good look at the inside of my car today due to the amount of rain we have had lately. Unfortunately I immediately found an issue with quite a considerable amount of water behind the drivers seat and what I found particularly odd was the rear mat was wet but has a plastic base. Any advice would be grateful on which drain plug I should be looking at and why would the mat be wet.
Thanks in advance

Thanks Andy
Will look at plug tomorrow morning and give an update. Passenger side dry, under drivers side rear seat also wet

I have just encountered the same problem with the drivers side rear footwell carpet very damp. Thanks to this thread I have today removed the rear wheel arch liners and found the drain outlets blocked with sludge. I have cleaned them but water does not appear to flow out when I pour it in the top, only from the front wheel drain. I shall do further investigation behind the rear side panels next, however these early dark evenings don't help as I don't have the luxury of a garage.

Hi Mike
I have opted for the easy solution, dropped car off to Nick at auto 2000 to carry out the work. Good luck with yours.

Both my previous and current Boxsters suffered from condensation inside front and rear 'screens in cold weather but neither have shown any traces of wet carpets (I've just checked the one outside to confirm...).
I use 2 dessicant bags to absorb moisture, I've tried parking the car with the vents open, parking it with the vents closed and I've sat with the aircon on COLD for five minutes to dry the interior air and cool it down (warm air holds more moisture, as we all know), with no significant improvement.
Can't expkain why and I'd love to be proved wrong but I now just look upon it as a fact of life with a convertible parked outside!

I have now cleared both front and rear drains and water runs through ok. Now I will try drying the rear carpets, foam underneath very wet and found a towel underneath one which the previous owner must have put there. I managed to lift the carpets without having to remove them and have stuck a dehumidifier in the back seat hoping that might help.

You need to get some heat in there as well, I used an electric fan heater for 24 hours, you need to lift and wedge something under the carpet so you get airflow right under, there could be 4 or 5 litres of water in there easily, the dehumidifier on its own will take weeks!
