As we went to mainland Britain’s most southerly point at the beginning of this trip it seemed only right to visit the most northerly point...

Having reached the most northerly point I turned left to follow the NC500 route, I was worried that being a Sunday the roads would be busy...

The B869 is very scenic, very long (about 25 miles), very narrow with passing places (sometimes I had to reverse back to them), has unguarded drops at the roadside, numerous blind crests and blind bends and much of it was taken in 3rd gear. I’m glad I drove it and was equally as glad to reach the end unscathed...

We Stayed in Lochinver last night and again tonight so only doing local driving. If anyone wants details of an excellent guesthouse in Lochinver please PM me.

Roads today were all single carriage with passing places, seems there are quite a few cars with no reverse gear, luckily I can reverse my Cayman using the mirrors - one old codger couldn’t reverse 40ft so I had to reverse about 200ft. Not everyone gives a friendly wave for giving way or reversing, I wonder if that is antipathy towards a Porsche.
 Great scenery though...

There’s not much margin for error on these roads lined with walls and rock...

James, as of today we’ve done 1756 miles since leaving home on 4th May.

M4tty1, my car has PASM so is 10mm lower, and I’m sure that the two suitcases and holdalls are lowering it further.

Today‘s journey was from Lochinver to Poolewe, all on two lane A roads for a change. With all day sunshine, temps of 20 deg C, the scenery we saw reminded us of west coast USA...

Great stuff Andrew.

In addition to the walls and rocks, from my experience of Highland driving I'm sure you're keeping a sharp lookout for sheep and deer too..!

A fabulous tour Andrew and Julie. Excellent comments and photos posted. I'm glad the weather has behaved for you.

Your UK tour is an epic trip by any standards, and you are certainly doing the Highlands properly I'm pleased to say. I couldn't have planned it any better myself.

Only the wise choose the months of May or late September to tour the far north.

Shhh. Keep it to yourself........

Today saw the end of the NC500 leg of our trip as we travelled to Inverness from Poolewe via Torridon, Applecross and the Scottish version of the Stelio Pass. Stunning scenery all day with temperatures up to 24 deg C...
