My 2019 UK tour (was - Just going to the shop, back soon....)

Midlands to Scotland with a zig-zag tour route in the planning stage with Mrs Hillclimber.

Was going to Germany but too much risk with Covid and things, so UK it is.

Will show her your 'Northern Section'

These road trip reports are great, and gets the cars out there getting miles and miles and dirty. [:)]

Is last two weeks of may too late for nc500 my Scottish friends?

we plan to go right after Manx porsche weekend

worried too many southerners/ midges about by then 🤣

I think the midges won't be in full bite by then. You can often land lucky with good weather in May in Scotland. Good time to go.

Hi Andrew, really enjoyed your posts. I have a 987.1 S. Manual. I did the north of Scotland route you describe in reverse 2 or 3 times... My wife was a bridesmaid in Wick one of the years. This is back in the early 70's in an MGB roadster. In those days you could meet the lobster boat at Wick harbour and get a lobster for half a crown... 2/6 or 25 p for our younger readers

I guess the roads haven't changed much. I believe you did this trip in May which if I can do it again would be my choice of dates. How did you find the roads in terms of RV's/ caravans. I presume you booked accommodation well beforehand? Expensive? quality?

You seem to have driven about 4 hours a day in the North. Did you find that was enough on the single track/ twisty roads? I'd appreciate if you could put a scrap of meat on the bones

I suspect it's the former. Could you add a comment on the "New Forum Layout?" thread about your photos and it will be picked up by IT.
