FPSH for the 991 - Is it worth it?

Hi Gang.

I've been absent for some time (baby boy, future F1 champion natch) but and having just brought the car out of hibernation, I've had to expose myself again to the OPC network. Sadly, not a great experience again. I'm not going to name names as I understand the rules of the forum and club.

So, as per the title, in your opinion, it the £3-500 premium each service worth the retained value of our pride and joys?

I still adore the car, I just wonder whether my experience would be improved by avoiding the OPC network apart from warranty renewals?

You have a £60k+ car and your concerned about the odd couple of hundred £’s in difference once a year or two between OPC & indie?

Although i DO appreciate where your coming from because quite frankly, OPC’s do take the p#+* on service prices, the warranty is invaluable in my honest experience.

My last major was £1500 but they did replace a turbo actuator under warranty.

The other thing I do to numb the pain is consider how much it would cost to hire one of their courtesy cars for the day. Boxster, 991, Macan, surely got to be close to £300/day to hire.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, it's not really the money, I may have over-emphasised my grumpiness in the wrong direction.
I have been spending thousands of services for years, its more the fact that the service compared to other marques is actually no better contrary to Porsche UK's claim. As for loan cars, Audi used to regularly lend me RS6's, R8's etc and LR always put me in something flash (sales technique I reckon) so there's no real difference.

I'm actually not sure what I' moaning about, but I wanted to moan so I did :)

I understand your point, but I wouldn’t be tempted to break a FPSH, however if your current dealer is frustrating you is it worth try the next closest one to you?
if you get better looked after you may feel you’re getting better value for money

just a thought

cheers

I must be lucky on servicing - I feel looked after and my cars properly cared for at my local OPC. Sure it's not cheap, but when sales time comes, put yourself in the buyers position. Car with regular and complete OPC servicing, and sold by an OPC with warranty, vs indie servicing - maybe some gaps - no warranty. which one would you buy? and how much of a price difference would you accept for that? Quite a lot I suspect.

I would say it is worth it, yes.

Remember with 2 year service intervals, all consumables must last 2 years or 20k miles. So filters, fluids, brakes, wiper blades etc are all replaced as a matter of course in accordance with the official Porsche service schedule AND using Porsche approved parts.

An independent may or may not carry out all this service work fully and correctly, but it would be as well to add something into the cost to cover uncertainty. If you have extended warranty, you also need to add in the 111 point inspection charge, since this is usually undertaken FOC by your PC when combined with a service. On top of this, consider the potential cost of the less desirable service history being reflected in the residual value.

You have a superb, high performance sports car so it needs to be maintained in tip-top condition to get the best from it. Porsche parts are undoubtedly expensive, but just be glad you didn't choose a Ferrari or McLaren - now that really would make your eyes water! [:(] [:D]
Regards,

Clive

So Jimmy I see you bought a Range Rover Westminster - I too have a 4.4 tdv8 with LR warranty at £1650 per yr and services annually at £600 - £800. OPC relatively cheap by comparison!

Hey!! Don't go bringing facts into my tantrum!!

For a car with that amount of technology and value, I personally would not even consider a 991 without a full service history at the OPC.

I hear exactly the point you are making and as the car becomes older then maybe Yes, I'd consider a Indie service, but not anything in the 991 league as yet.
