Remapping

Hi all
My independant specialist is looking into offering remapping. They claim that no upgrades are required in the specification on the car. Not sure what the general output percentage increases are to be but they got well over 100bhp on a 997 turbo s.
I know very little about remapping but they have suggested they could do my car, a 997.2 carrera, as an example car for an extremely favourable price.
My main concerns/questions are
1. Would the upgrade wear parts (other than the obvious brake pads etc) faster than the factory output?
2. Are no spec upgrades really required to handle the extra performance (assuming about an extra 100bhp)
3. Would it affect my car value for resale?
4. Can it be reversed if i want the car back to factory settings?

My instict is that im not really interested as i am happy with what i have but then again, it might be fun!?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother remapping a n/a car. You won't get anything like the 100 BHP achievable with the turbo. My guess would be 15-20 at best.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. You need to clarify with those undertaking the work.

I agree with tscaptain, you are unlikely obtain anything like a 100BHP on a normally aspirated C2.

Unless you're wringing the maximum from your car and looking for more power each time you drive it, why do you need more grunt?

Porsche use up much time and resources optimising the performance of their cars and very few others will be able to stay with a stock, well driven Carrera 2.

My advice would be to spend your money on some good driving tuition instead. [;)]

Hi

I have installed in my Range Rover Sport 3.6 petrol supercharged a Tunit Optimum Plus which certainly makes a difference in performance. It plugs into the OBD port and programmable from your mobile phone to Sport Plus, Sport, Economy and neutral. It is easily removed and I tried it on my 991.1 CS and the difference is amazing. Easy to fit and remove and you can put it on any recent petrol car.

Thanks for the responses.
I have never driven it to capacity thus far so that argument is totally valid. Everything is standard factory on the car as I always question who could better what is already perfect.
As for driving tuition, have you been watching me drive then!!? [;)]:ROFLMAO:

No offence intended and I see from your smilies none was taken! [;)]

I'm sure most of us would benefit from a course with an expert driving instructor. The 911 has a configuration different to most other sports cars and demands rather different techniques to control it.

Since this is your first 911, I was endeavouring to be constructive as regards the cost/benefit ratio. [:)]

When I get the confidence to go over 30mph, I will certainly invest in tuition. I had to cancel my first Brands Hatch track day coming up but this may be a good thing given my lack of tuition to date.

Obviously, no offence taken in the slightest.

Hi. I've just installed an EVOMSit map for my 997.2 C4GTS.
Dyno Results before and after are posted in the earlier "Dyno test" topic string
Map installed after fitting the Miltec exhaust centre box delete cross pipes.
Dyno is showing an increase of around 20 Bhp across the rev range and a torque improvement of around 30lbs ft from 2000rpm right thro the rpm range.
Throttle response and acceleration noticeably improved. Pretty much what Evoms stated for the map. Easy to deal with and good technical support via email.
Map is supplied by email download for a Windows PC' then upLoaded to the car via the OBDII port and a "soft loader" so you can revert to Stock at any time. It's wasn't cheap but I felt it was good value from a well known and respected Porsche tuning company.

Map v tuition value for money? Always tuition is the best performance upgrade, it makes all your cars faster .... but after you've had the lessons you may want to go faster still ??
For me and I suspect most others it's about adding my wee bit of personalisation, something you can do to make the car a little better and individual.
