991.1 GTS Wheel Refurb

I have an annoying small scrape on one of my wheels & have just spoken to my local dealer (Guildford Porsche) re a wheel refurb to which they have quoted £250. So my question is would you use them or a wheel specialist & if the later can anyone recommend anyone in the South East.

That sounds rather expensive to me Paul.

I paid about £140 for a full wheel refurb (stripping, powder coating, colour spraying and lacquering) which included refitting the tyre and balancing the wheel. A local repair on the outer face only should be significantly cheaper and wouldn't require removal of the tyre.

I'm not local to you but you could try https://www.exelwheels.co.uk/

It's doubtful the Porsche Centre will repair it themselves. They will probably outsource to their favoured local specialist. If you can find out who that is, it would probably cost you around £90 to get done.
I can recommend someone good in the Southwest. However, many professionals use Pristine Wheels, who have a national collect and delivery service.
Regards,

Clive

I am with everyone else, it sounds very expensive. I have used Cannons in Salisbury and depending on the wheel type, the cost is between £90 and £120 and the result is good.

Paul, there's a guy I've been using for a few years who is an absolute genius. Even with diamond cut alloys. Problem is he doesn't have the appropriate torque wrench to take off your wheel if you have a centre nut, as I now do. I asked him about this recently when he was here repairing one of my wife's car's alloys and he said he could probably manage a repair without taking the wheel off, depending where the damage is. He charges £65 per wheel. If he can do the job I would challenge you to find the damaged area when he's done. If you're in the Greater London area, I'd definitely recommend giving him a call (nothing to lose). PM me if you're interested, I'll give you his details
Best

Thanks for everyone's replies. I did think that sounded expensive & you've all confirmed that. My main priority is to get the best job done as possible as the rest of the car is in concourse condition, so I don't mind paying what ever it costs but obviously don't want to be ripped off. Thanks again for the replies.
Ellis, I'll PM you for your guys details.

After a very comprehensive scrape of 50% of the wheel rim against concrete, I had my 991.2 GTS wheel refurbished by Dick Lovett Spraymaster (Swindon) via Porsche Tewkesbury for £100+VAT, the 991 GTS (Gen 1 and 2) wheels are not Diamond Cut just painted black so it's not a difficult repair.

I have used Planet Wheels near High Wycombe. Excellent service and have done a set of GT3 wheels for me and a diamond cut on one of my Boxter wheels (damaged by a tyre company) recently. They are reasonable price, and will probably give discount for club member. You may want to check with them re wheel brace for centre locks.

FYI: I spoke to Chris at Exel Wheels yesterday regarding a refurb of my centre locks (I posted about this a few days ago on the general discussion area). No one seems to want to touch these wheels, including my favourite refurbers Lepson's. Like other companies Chris said he wouldn't take off the wheels himself but he does liaise closely with some of the top indies, including RPM Technik. RPM will take the wheels off and pass them to Chris. He then works with Lepson's (amongst others) to ensure that they do the best job possible for him. As I'll probably coincide my refurb with new tyres he'll also organise for this to be carried out. Once they're done he'll get them back to RPM who then refit the wheels. It sounds like a perfect solution. He told me that the tyre fitting is a non-profit process, so he'll get the tyres at the lowest price possible.
