Young lads perspective on a 944

Hi im only 22 so im probably quite young for this forum but after owning a selection of hot hatches and an mgb gt i thought id share how happy i am that i own a 944.
After having several minor issues with gear linkages, power steering and a rather poorly maintained cooling system my 944 is in a nice driveable state.
So after going to see a film with some mates i drove back to the village i live, in the pitch black with very old headlights that seem to ignore the first 50 yards and only light the hedge rows.
Its not till you drive a car like these you realise how detached modern cars are I found myself driving much slower than in other cars but having much more fun. As well as having to wind off lock as im turning because the car just goes where you point it.
This is the first car ive driven where you actually know what the front wheels are doing.
And although my car isnt perfect the drive home was like a nocturnal version of the start of the italian job. Only in a porsche and without the digger trashing my car.
My lux doesnt have the power of my previous cars but the handling more than makes up for it, and so i look forward to restoring and upgrading my car and driving it more and more.
As it was such a bargain i think im going to hold on to this car for a while.
I could go on for ages but im sure you know what im talking about, i just thought share my opinion

The lights get dirty hidden away and theyre also low enough to get badly chipped and grit blasted. In many cases they can be opaque.

On an older car like yours itll be easiest to fit new lamps as theyre cheap. Id also treat it to a light rewire too, with a relay so that the current passing through the light switch is only used for a signal. This will probably double the light output.

Am i the only one dying to knkw how much his insurance was and who provided it will defo help others

It gives me hope to know that some young people still have the class

Hi and welcome,
Firstly - age is a vastly over rated measure of anything useful.
Secondly - 944s are such beguiling vehicles, we know exactly what you're talking about, from square ease to nodded turbo.
We'ed love some pictures and I'd also love to know where you got it insured. My 22 yr old daughter is thinking about one, she has a 2.2 Astra Bertone Coupe currently.
On here there is a fantastic wealth of knowlege, which is freely, happily and humorously given to everyone.
Enjoy the forun and the car.

Edit - I'm not far away in Leicester and my no is in the Sig below.
You should come along to a Club meet, Region 8 meet at The Coopers Arms Weston On Trent, next one is tomorrow at 7.30. I won't be there (only 2nd I've missed in 5 years) but they have a journalist talking about Porsche and his rallying exploits.
Forgot to add white is the best colour [:D]

Thanks for the replies everyone i do intend to upgrade the lights asap.
Ive always been into classics and the 944 moreso as when i was young i was given a set of toy porsches, i was disapointed at the time because my brother got the ferrari set but there was a dark green 944 in the set. Since then ive always wanted one.
As for insurance ive been with elephant for four years have offroad parking and pay £600 ish

Hello and welcome. Glad that you are happy with your new steed. You won't find anyone on here disagreeing with your point of view - this is an enthusiasts forum after all! (Although everyone will also be able to tell you - in private - about all the weak points of the 944! [:'(] )

Lights are certainly not the best on a standard car. I wrote this thread here which should help you a lot.

Keep us posted with how you get on.

Oli.

That's a good write up oil. Impressed.

Im 28 knocking on 29 my 944S was my 1st car at 25 and my turbo is my 2nd 944 and 2nd car
Had 3 differnt coloured 944 now, due 2 a respray.
Red/ black 944S
Zerment silver turbo

Quite like white, Titan grey as well. But black is the colour 4 me.

I bought my first 944 when I was 23 and after 10 years of modern cars it's time for a new old one so I bought a 944s this weekend and I must say how I have missed the car. You won't go back to those hot hatches! I had a highly modified Saab 9-5 which had over double the standard power well 325 bhp and just under 350 torques and these cars do seem quicker, it's that lovely balance they have.
I should really start my own thread introducing myself and my car ;-)
